Welding Engineer

Overview:

Kenner, LA: Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking a Welding Engineer to operate, program, maintain, and trouble shoot for all phases of production. The manager should possess a deep knowledge of manufacturing processes and the use of related machine tools.

Essential Duties:

· Discuss with engineering, welding symbol issues to make sure the product is welded in the manner that engineering wants.

· Check all ECN’s or Ares Packet IDs for proper welding symbols and notes,

· Fill out ECR’s or Helpdesks for correct welding symbols and notes or missing dimensions or measurements.

· Teach classes on welding methods, procedures, processes, welding symbols and blueprint reading.

· Maintain documentation on welder’s training and classification.

· Direct the Welding Trainers on how to document Welding Instructions and save them to the network for posterity.

· Coordinate with engineering & production to get the desired result.

· Decide what welding equipment is needed to purchase to stay up to date with the technical improvements in the welding process.

· Perform trials on new formulations of welding wire to approve for purchase for production.

· Test and try new applications to keep spatter at bay.

· Test and try new welding hoods, leather sleeves, heat resistant gloves and fireproof blankets for protecting the product and the welder from hot work.

· Convene with manufacturing reps to see what the industry has new on the market that may be applicable.

· Interact with upper management on purchase of ancillary equipment.

Requirements/Skills:

· Bachelor of Science in Welding Engineering Technology

· Certified Welding Engineer (CWEng) preferred

· 5+ years’ supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment preferred

· An advanced knowledge of a welder’s skills through weld tests before hiring & propensity for safety.

· An advanced ability in troubleshooting welding problems in both the equipment and the welded structure.

· Ability to choose another course of action to circumvent a stop in production.

· Must be able to communicate to the welder during or after the weldment is inspected; the recognition of weld defects, possible cause of the defect, and the proper method of correcting the defect.

· Must be able to communicate to the Welding Supervisors and Workflow Coordinators the production goals that must be met in the most expeditious manner.

· Must be able to communicate to upper management with intelligent speech bringing not only the problem but also a possible solution for discussion.

· Must be able to bring a calm manner to a counselling session between a supervisor and a welder or finisher.

· Resolve the situation so that both sides have learned the way to settle disputes.

· Must be able to interview prospective welders and get a good feeling of the person’s abilities before giving a welding test and whether the person has the right attitude to get along with our system of management.

· Must be able to teach different welding methods, processes, read drawings from the engineers, welding symbols and weld defect recognition and correction.

Physical Requirements:

· Must be able to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.

· Must have enough manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.

· Must be able to see details at close range.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

· Must be able to traverse facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
