Job Title: Laboratory Billing and Compliance Coordinator

Position Overview:

  • Maintain the financial integrity of laboratory operations.
  • Manage accounts receivable, patient registration, collections, contracting, handling denials, and oversee billing training and insurance listings.
  • Coordinate the design, development, and implementation of education and billing compliance programs.
  • Develop tools for data collection and compile Performance Improvement (PI) data.
  • Set annual goals with key performance indicators.
  • Review the Laboratory Chargemaster and perform CPT coding and charge accuracy audits across all laboratory departments.
  • Stay current with billing regulatory guidelines.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)

Experience:

  • 3-5 years (Preferred)
  • 4 years of relevant experience (Preferred)

Licenses & Certifications:

  • National Certification (Preferred)
  • Eligible or registered by the Board of Registry of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or equivalent, if applicable.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Organize daily tasks to meet quality standards, identify areas for improvement, and implement necessary training enhancements. Develop systems to monitor training effectiveness. Adapt to workload changes and stressful situations with confidence and support. Proactively identify where work focus is needed.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory billing standards, collaborate with administrative leaders to maintain compliance and implement best practices. Report ongoing issues to the Manager and suggest solutions.
  • Enhance customer service in reception, collection, and registration processes to ensure ethical and compliant billing practices with all payers including Medicare, Tricare, and other third-party contracts. Develop processes for on-the-spot laboratory collections as needed.
  • Manage denial tracking and key performance indicators to reduce denials and claim rejections.
  • Track and maintain quality metrics, review and monitor to identify and resolve ongoing issues. Support the development of a billing compliance culture within the department, facilitating continuous improvement and collaboration with outreach team leads. Design educational and competency programs with clear goals, learning objectives, content, and evaluation methods.
  • Maintain records as per regulatory guidelines, collaborate with departmental leaders on billing compliance, CDM edits, CPT coding, and billing audits.
  • Work with hospital and laboratory leadership to expand laboratory business and ensure stable profit margins.
