Location: Santa Clara, CA

Duration: 12+ months contract

 

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a Lab/Datacenter Support Engineer for our Datacenter Ecosystems and Application Engineering team. The main focus for this role is hardware provisioning, system installation setup, including large clusters with complex switching requirements. The candidate selected for this role will also take part in system & network administration across a wide range of OEM platforms and operating systems (all major linux distros and Windows Server), as well as troubleshooting and debugging component level issues with pre-production systems.

 

THE PERSON:

The Lab/Datacenter Support Engineer position will report to Client’s Datacenter Ecosystems & Application Engineering team and will collaborate closely with all performance, characterization and optimization teams. The person selected for this role will work dynamically to satisfy team requirements in a very fast paced environment. The right candidate will have a strong understanding of the hardware and software stacks from the motherboard to the operating system level, as well as a well-rounded understanding of network topologies, designs and switch management.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interface with DEAE engineering teams for hardware and software provisioning.
  • System and network administration of hundreds of servers across multiple labs
  • Troubleshooting issues at the system, cluster and network level caused by both the pre-production nature of the systems, and errors in engineers’ understanding of how to configure the system.
  • Rack and stack servers, switches, routers, and other equipment as required.
  • Replace components such as CPU, memory, hard drives, PCIe adapters.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of servers to reflect the correct model numbers, serial numbers, and locations of equipment in the lab and assist with tracking the usage of resources.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated experience working in a dynamic R&D or engineering lab with strong prioritization skills.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills applied to resolving system level and operating system level failure modes.
  • Strong understanding lab, data center and cloud infrastructures.
  • Configure switches routers and switches (Mellanox, Broadcom, Cisco, Dell, HP).
  • Proficiency working with ACLs, TCP/IP, VLAN, and port security
  • Understanding of virtualization technology (VMware, vSphere, ESXi) and Microsoft Hypervisor.
  • Solid understanding of LAN and WAN technologies, protocols and inter-networking principles.
