We seek a highly motivated Events Network Engineer with exceptional project management skills, critical thinking abilities, and a strong sense of ownership. The Events Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining network solutions for large-scale events where connectivity is critical. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on facing new challenges in diverse environments, is willing to get their "hands dirty" in every aspect of network setup and is passionate about ensuring flawless network connectivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project Leadership: Lead network projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams, setting project goals, managing resources, and ensuring the network setup is executed on time and within scope.
- Network Design and Setup: Design, implement, and manage network infrastructure focusing on switches and access points, to deliver an enterprise-grade network at a temporary event. Take complete ownership of network-related initiatives.
- On-Site Deployment: occasionally travel to event locations to oversee network installations, ensure optimal Wi-Fi coverage, configure network devices, and troubleshoot/diagnose any connectivity issues in real time that arise during the event.
- Collaboration: Work closely with on-site technical teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to ensure a smooth implementation.
- Security Implementation: Apply network security best practices, configure firewalls, access control lists, and implement encryption measures to safeguard the event network.
- Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, IP addresses, troubleshooting guides, and lessons learned, to support future events and continuous improvement.
- Site Capacity Pre-Planning: Predict network demands, user requirements, and bandwidth needs, and make necessary adjustments to ensure a high-quality experience for event attendees.
Requirements:
- Education: bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, CWNA, etc.) are highly desired.
- Technical Proficiency: Solid understanding of networking protocols, equipment, and security best practices. Familiarity with Cisco, Fortinet, Extreme or other network hardware is advantageous. Expertise in configuring, managing, and troubleshooting switches, routers, access points, wireless controllers, and related network hardware.
- Hands-On Attitude: Willingness to take a hands-on approach, performing physical tasks such as cable installation when necessary and network device configuration to ensure the success of the event network.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills, the ability to adapt to changing environments, and a proactive approach to resolving network challenges on the spot.
- Flexibility: This position combines both remote work (candidates can live anywhere in the US) and onsite travel – typically between 70 and 100 days a year.
If you're ready to be an essential part of creating exceptional event experiences through robust and reliable network solutions and are excited about the travel aspect of the role, we encourage you to apply.
