Position Summary

The EHS Coordinator is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing Proterials Companies safety and environmental policies and programs and insuring all employees are following the guidelines to create a safe and healthy work environment. Their main duty is to ensure that the company complies and adheres to Occupational Health and Safety (OHSA) guidelines and institute programs and policies to eliminate all work-related injuries. They are also responsible for overseeing and managing environmental compliance with local, federal, and Company policies, including proper record keeping and permitting. A major function of the environmental policies is to drive reduction of environmental impacts, and to reduce energy consumption of the facility.

Essential Functions

  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local, and Proterial laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Interprets regulations (OSHA, EPA, NFPA, state, local, etc.) for applicability to Proterial Cable America activities.
  • Manage and enforce all aspects of the Safety and Environmental programs including compliance with federal, state, local, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Assist during environmental and safety compliance, customer, and other outside organization audits.
  • Conduct injury investigations and hazard risk assessments.
  • Rewrite or author Safety Documents such as JSA’s or others as needed to enhance existing safety documentation.
  • Manage workers compensation claims.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through behavioral observations.
  • Develop and document Safety and Environmental training for employees, Conduct training with site personnel (new hire EH&S, chemical hazard training, spill prevention control, stormwater, etc.).
  • Maintain the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan, including completing required inspections and annual review.
  • Update environmental and safety documents when needed, filing on time and accurately.
  • Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses, operator training, machine guarding, PPE assessments, etc.
  • Coordinates emergency response procedures.
  • Communicate with federal, state, and local government representatives as required.
  • Be an active member of the Emergency Response Team.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has limited to no supervisory responsibility.

Travel Requirements

Minor travel between Proterial Sites or to Safety and Environmental organizations and or meetings.

Physical Demands

Must be able to sit frequently and stand occasionally. Position involves walking, bending, stooping, pushing/pulling and reaching. Some lifting may be required, up to 50 pounds.

Safety Expectations

  • Obey all safety rules, use caution in work activities, and continuously practice safe behaviors.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions/behaviors and work-related injuries to site supervision

Education and Experience

  • 3-5 years’ experience as a Health and Safety Coordinator or similar position
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety or related field preferred, or equivalent.
  • OHSA certification is preferred.
  • Experience with PowerPoint, Excel, and other MS Office tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation.
  • Understanding of federal, state and city safety requirements, including OSHA
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities at the same time while meeting deadlines.
  • Interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish effective professional relationships with employees and department managers.
  • Leadership skills, such as the ability to motivate a team and provide feedback.
