Allied West Paper Corp. (AWP) is an industry-leading, FSC-certified paper converter producing innovative bath tissue, paper towels, paper napkins, and facial tissue for the retail and commercial markets. We have an immediate opening for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer in our Machine Shop to join our fast-paced, growth-oriented manufacturing company. The Manufacturing Machine Shop Engineer  is responsible for the management of shop activities to ensure quality products are produced.

Job Duties

  • Designing new parts and equipment, processes, etc.
  • Manage machine shop staff.
  • Resolves complex design and malfunction problems of mechanical equipment.
  • Repairs, rebuilds and installs equipment as required.
  • Quotes and purchases items for upcoming jobs
  • Maintains shop facilities, including maintaining inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Researching and implementing ways to make processes more efficient
  • Responsible to know and enforce all safety and environmental regulations.
  • Effective at developing and managing a project plan to achieve desired results
  • Proven ability to achieve required objectives through the leadership of others
  • Ability to communicate with production associates, build relationships, work within cross functional teams (hourly/salaried) and gain consensus within work team

Experience

  • Eight or more years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Extensive experience with journal repairs (welding, metal spray and machining) and new journal replacement
  • Experience with straight bore bearings, tapered bore bearings and accurate fitting and the cooling and heating with large bearing installation.
  • Able to use AutoCAD to make Roller/journal drawings (Solid Works Preferred)
  • Working knowledge with Lathes and Mills and various steel materials and welding
  • Power transmission including timing belts, (HTD, Poly chain, foreign timing belts, etc., ratios for changing RPM’s. and Horsepower calculations
  • Understands Gear hardness and Flame hardening, our goal is R/C 55-57, over 59 is too hard.
  • Experience with high-speed machinery
  • Experience in Paper, plastics, films a big plus
  • Worked and managed repairs with outside machine shops
  • A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline is preferred
