It is the belief of the faculty of the Marsha Fuerst School of Nursing (MFSON) that each member should have defined responsibilities and that the MFSON accepts the responsibility of supporting its team members in the achievements of both departmental and individual professional goals.
The Clinical Coordinator serves as a liaison for communication with clinical agencies and faculty regarding clinical student learning experiences. The coordinator maintains information regarding orientation and facility requirements and reviews student records to verify compliance with health requirements. The coordinator engages clinical agencies to secure student placements, increase the number of clinical placements, and track agency issues, requirements, and learning opportunities. The Clinical Coordinator reports directly to the Dean of Nursing.
The Clinical Coordinator, as a member of the MFSON Faculty, must meet Nevada Board of Nursing requirements.
All faculty must follow policies and procedures outlined in the Nursing Faculty Handbook and the College Catalog.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitates the identification, recruitment, and touring of new clinical/practicum agency student placement sites under the direction of Dean and Assistant Dean of Nursing.
- Identifies potential student learning experiences in clinical/practicum sites.
- Negotiates schedules with current clinical affiliations, develops rotation schedules, and manages student clinical placement issues in collaboration with the Dean and Assistant Dean of Nursing.
- Schedules, assigns, and notifies students and clinical faculty regarding the clinical orientations for each student clinical group each semester.
- Collaborates with agency staff to maintain currency in all clinical institution contractual agreements.
- Interacts with clinical agencies to plan for and schedule student group and practicum preceptor clinical rotations.
- Participates in required meetings at clinical affiliation agencies.
- Attends selected community professional meetings and recruitment job fair as assigned.
- Collaborates with the clinical instructors and facility nurses/administration to evaluate clinical sites.
- Serves as a resource and support person for clinical instructors.
- Manages clinical concerns from faculty, staff, and students for the Dean and Assistant Dean of Nursing in accordance with MFSON and NCI policies.
- Assume a part-time teaching load as needed and assigned by the Dean of Nursing to meet program needs.
- Adhere to all college policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Nevada.
- Master’s degree with a major in nursing from an accredited school OR Bachelor’s degree with a major in nursing and a master’s or doctoral degree in a field related to nursing.
- Three years of experience as a registered nurse.
- Two years of teaching or academic administration experience preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal communication, and writing skills.
- Familiarity with scheduling software and computer systems.
Fulltime 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., may have a early morning or evening clinical courses
