IT Installation and Support Technician

About the position

We are currently seeking an IT Support Technician/Installation Technician for a full-time position. As a technician you will provide first and second-level support and excellent customer service for technical infrastructure including Urbancom Microwave point to point, Wi-Fi network, Windows OS, Linux OS, mobile devices, Fiber internet, VoIP phones, printers, networking devices, end user applications.  Our customers include county and local governments as well as business and residential customers. From time to time, you must be able to climb communication towers as well as ladders to work on roof tops. In addition to installation of microwave radios and dishes on rooftops and communications towers you will run Cat5, coax and fiber optic cables. This position uses many of the skills used by cellular installers or satellite dish or cable installers, however we do not climb towers every day, and much of the work is directed to other IT related activities. These activities include installation of network cable, switches, routers, IP video cameras, and VoIP phones for governments, businesses and residential customers.

In our work environment you will be exposed to cutting edge technologies and have the opportunity to learn many new technologies. You must be a highly organized self starter with excellent attention to detail and passionate about your work.

THIS IS A FULL TIME PERMANENT POSITION AT OUR OFFICE IN OAK FOREST IL. CANDIDATES MUST RESIDE WITHIN A REASONABLE COMMUTE TO OUR OFFICE. THIS POSITION IS NOT AN OVER THE ROAD TOWER CLIMBER OR REMOTE TECHNICIAN POSITION.

Requirements:

•                     Candidates must be able to pass a background check, and drug screen.

•                     Must be 18 yrs. or older with a valid driver’s license.

•                     Ability to work overtime as needed

•                     Candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

•                     Provides user support for computer systems and standard corporate software products.

•                     Provides comprehensive local and remote technical support for clients.

•                     Configure and install a broad range of new and used computer equipment and peripherals.

•                     Troubleshoot an assortment of technical issues with the assistance of peers and vendors.

•                     Conduct user training on various technical-related topics for clients.

•                     Effectively prioritize support issues and tasks by documenting assigned help desk requests and following up on unresolved issues.

•                     Provides support for operating systems, virus scanning, malware and spyware removal, data recovery, and proper archive procedures.

•                     Installing network hardware, components and cabling

•                     Install microwave dishes, access points, IP Cameras, other network devices

•                     Trouble shooting and resolving issues with network cabling, copper and fiber.

•                     Ability to rack and stack networking hardware within onsite and off-site racks in accordance with requirements

•                     Ability to provide technical support through various means of communication

•                     Collaborate easily with network engineers and project managers

•                     Assisting network engineers with network design, implementation and problem resolution

•                     Be able to cable networking rooms and racks to data center cabling requirements and standards

•                     Meet quality, productivity, turnaround time and other expectations

•                     Installation of residential and commercial wireless networks, both independently and as part of a larger team

•                     Configuration and troubleshooting of small office / home network services including WIFI, DHCP, NAT, firewalls and port forwarding

•                     Install and configure voice-over-internet-protocol (VOIP) endpoints

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

•                     Requires a customer service mindset and professionalism throughout all interactions with the users.

•                     Ability to use basic cable installation tools and hand tools

•                     Demonstrated experience in all Microsoft Office versions.

•                     Demonstrated experience in Microsoft operating systems.

•                     Knowledge of various network environments (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, etc.)

•                     Demonstrated ability to function in a multi-tasking environment.

•                     Demonstrated ability to work with various levels of colleagues from top management to new hires.

•                     Good experience of networking hardware – routers, servers, switches, PDU's, copper and fiber optic cabling.

•                     Prior experience with Fiber Optic (OTDR) and Fiber Optic Fusion Splicing, is helpful

•                     Experience installing residential / commercial WiFi, Satellite and/or microwave radio equipment

•                     Hands on experience with major manufactures of routers, switches and wireless.

•                     Excellent organizational, interpersonal, time management, written and oral communication skills.

•                     Good understanding of networking concepts and a desire to build skills in this area

•                     Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail.

•                     Ability to diagnose basic technical problems and find the root cause.

•                     Ability to work in fast paced dynamic environment

•                     Must be available to work outside of normal business hours

•                     Must be available to travel to various customer sites

•                     Previous experience in a similar role a plus

 

Pay rate:

$20-$30/hr - This position is a permanent full time position. Experience will determine pay scale

Schedule:

Business hours: Monday thru Friday, 8am to 5pm Central.

Non-business hours:  As part of our support team, the individual will be required to be on call at scheduled times as part of the team. On call, hours will be seen as overtime for the hours worked as long as the employee has met their required 40 hours for the workweek.
