10% travel (typically once a quarter - one to three weeks depending on the study) - some international (most - must have a passport

 

Contract Length. 9 months (able to extend)

 

  • Must have Medical Device Experience
  • Must be able to perform usability assessments - user experience testing

 

Job Description:

  • Requires in-depth knowledge and experience of human factors as well as cognitive psychology theory and application; the software development process, software technology, and effective methods of working with R&D teams; customers, trends, governmental factors and emerging research and technologies affecting product usability.
  • A qualified record of implementing new processes to existing human factors and related systems.
  • Documented record of delivering software engineering information which adds value to management’s decision-making process.
  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Experience working on U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulated, class 2 or class 3 medical devices or combination.
  • Knowledge of insulin-requiring diabetes / strong diabetes disease state and diabetes product knowledge.
  • Understanding of Quality System Regulations (QSR), including maintenance of a Design History File (DHF)/Usability Engineering File.
  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Apply human factors expertise to the definition, design, and evaluation of products within the R&D division of Abbott Diabetes Care
  • Apply knowledge of human factors principles (human performance and limitations – perceptual, cognitive, motor skills, anthropomorphic) and techniques (knowledge acquisition, user-interface design, usability evaluation) to continuous glucose monitoring product development
  • Deliverables include but are not limited to: Usability engineering files; Task analyses; Usability risk analyses.
  • Ideal years’ of experience: 5+

 

Notes from Hiring Manager:

  • The focus of this job is assessing medical devices for usability and safety in order to mitigate risk with the design - and user ability to use the product properly without causing harm. This product this position is focusing diabetes product - app - and how it interfaces with your phone
  • Must be able to perform usability assessments - user experience testing
  • Highly prefer UX/UI Design experience in relation to human factors
  • Titles with usability or user research or user experience are good substitutes for actual Human Factors job titles
  • Use risk management knowledge to assess users in person
  • Would prefer a candidate with diabetes medical device product familiarity - but must at least have 'some' medical device experience - prefer class II - may consider bio wearable
  • Prefer a degree in human factors but not required. A good substitute degree is cognitive psychology, biomedical engineering, maybe mechanical engineering
