CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:
Essential
- Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product
- Review blueprints, written specifications or descriptions, or examine a damaged part
- Select the most appropriate machines and cutting tools for the job
- Plan the sequence of machining operations and required mathematical calculations
- Make the cuts, performing the required operations of the equipment
- Monitor feed and speed of the machine, ensuring all equipment and setups are held securely
- Ensure the workpiece is being properly lubricated and cooled
- Properly fill out and use dimensional verification sheets to monitor quality
- Have first article or individual part bought off by lead, supervisor or inspector
- Measure workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of operation
- Maintain efficient production times
- Ensure and record accurate counts
- Have parts properly prepared to hand off to the next process
- Communicate clearly and in a timely manner with supervisor, lead and co-workers
- Maintain the responsibilities of the ISO 9001 system in accordance with the requirements defined in the Quality Manual, and Procedure Level documentation
- Participate actively and positively in Ownership Thinking and Lean activities
- Deburr parts as needed
- Perform daily maintenance as needed
- All other duties as assigned
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Follow all OSHA safety regulations and those set by B & J Industries.
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Essential
- Minimum two years general machinist experience
- Strong math skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; additional skills in algebra, geometry and trigonometry
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments
- Good blueprint reading skills
- Ability to adhere to quality standards
- Ability to understand and follow detailed verbal instructions
- Ability to read and understand shop orders, policies and procedures
- Writing ability to record information on shop orders
- Manual dexterity
- Ability to visualize how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged
- Detail oriented
- Must have own tools
Beneficial
- High school graduate plus relevant vocational training (e.g. mathematics, blueprint reading, computer courses, machining, drafting)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Stand 50%, Walk 8%, Bend 5%, Squat 2%, Lift 18%, Twist 3%, Kneel 2%, Reach Above Shoulder 5%, Climb 2%, Drive 3%, Push/Pull 2%.
Maximum (minutes): Stand 240, Walk 38, Bend 24, Squat 10, Lift 86, Twist 14, Kneel 10, Reach Above Shoulder 24, Climb 10, Drive 14, Push/Pull 10.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Must have normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids).
Working Environment: Shop environment. Moderate noise level. Exposure to dust, heat and cold.
This position will require drug testing per company policy.
2nd Shift - Monday - Thursday 3:00pm - 1:30am
Monday - Thursday 3:00pm - 1:30am
