Retail stores - Work for a #1 store in their industry.

Position

Provide leadership to enhance the sales & profit of each assigned store through your efforts and the efforts of your teams..

Participate in leadership workshops & Organizational Development Meetings as the senior market manager.

This position is responsible for the strengthening of the sales & store leadership teams in their efforts to sell products and services offered by enhancing the guest experience and companies financial position.

This position will produce training programs to help associates adjust to their roles & responsibilities and be an effective “change manager”. Oftentimes demonstrating how various jobs should be performed.

Assigned Stores:

Kentwood, Kalamazoo, Grandville & Clearance Center

Reports to: Owners

Core Functions:

1. The function of a district manager is to oversee the overall operation of retail stores within an assigned territory.

2. District managers are strong merchants with a thorough understanding of retail aesthetics and positive in store guest experiences. This position requires the use of analytical skills and problem solving techniques.

3. Responsible for interviewing management candidates and present for hiring consideration. The overall staffing levels of assigned stores are a key component to the district manager’s position and you will be rated accordingly.

4. Ensuring district-wide guest satisfaction, proper sales training, store execution and team engagement while managing the territory’s financial performance.

5. Creating an atmosphere of education and ongoing team improvement. Sales & store personnel must be taught to understand very complex and sophisticated products so that they can demonstrate and explain these products to potential customers positively impacting their internal experience and companies financial performance.

6. This district manager must keep up-to-date with technology related to the products that the company sells in order to be able to thoroughly train those systems.

7. Construct learning objectives and have these objectives approved by their Direct Reports.

8. Gather all materials necessary for training sales representatives, including guest demonstrations by product developers, sales practices & internal subject matter experts.

9. Willingness and able to provide management coverage during peak selling seasons and/or to provide proper store coverage in place of active management staff.

10. Responsible for the execution of all sales, marketing, merchandising & company driven programs at the store level.

District Manager Essential Roles & Responsibilities

1. Build a business plan to include but not limited to training, sales projections, expense/inventory controls, staff development & GMROI.

2. Ensure accounts payable and receivable have all required documentation in a timely manner for proper processing.

3. Observe, teach, train & follow up with assigned store management & sales force for company execution and continuous improvement.

4. Support stores by providing sales goals, coaching, motivating and training.

5. Education & proper use of store tracking hardware & software solutions.

a) Monitor and track store “UPS” system in conjunction with utilized systems.

b) Track credit sales & App’s to UP’s ratio at the individual, store and territory level, monitor average and coach for growth.

c) Ensure all service standards are being upheld through scheduling, staffing to traffic, verifying proper store coverage at all times.

6. Develop individual and store sales goals.

a) Measure and monitor sales figures, making necessary adjustments, for individual and /or group selling strategies.

b) Report and discuss results with senior company leadership.

7. Maintain a complete and accurate marketplace analysis.

a) Execute “competitive shop analysis” tools at store level.

b) Provide timely flow of information regarding the competitive landscape for company use.

c) Ensure that information is being utilized at store level in positively growing sales.

10. Conduct weekly GM meetings.

Training & Development Essential Roles & Responsibilities

1. Support the recruiting function by sorting resumes, conducting initial screening interviews, recruiting in the field, partnering with the corporate recruiting team.

2. Identify training opportunities within the stores, communicating and working with the Retail Training Department.

3. When needed, spend time on the sales floor supporting the selling and management functions.

4. Report and discuss with direct reports analysis, goals and issues.

5. Conduct weekly Department management meetings, providing progress reports on initiatives, induction programs and ongoing education programs.

5.1. This includes daily management of direct reports.

5.2. Communication of company initiatives and “road map to success”.

5.3. Work collaboratively in all new initiatives from creation to implementation.

6. Maintain a professional image.

7. Ensure compliance of all company policies and procedures.

Education

▪ ​ Required – High School diploma

▪ Desired – 4 year degree

Experience

▪ 5-10 years of management experience in the retail industry preferably with a furniture or bedding background.

▪ 5+ years of multiple store management experience.

Knowledge

▪ Retail operations

▪ Commission sales

Skills and Abilities

▪ Proven track record in building client relationships

▪ Knowledge of retail business (preferably furniture & bedding)

▪ Ability to articulate ideas clearly and concisely in a variety of settings, adjusting the message to match the audience level and size

▪ Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills

▪ Computer skills (PowerPoint, MS Office,)

▪ Ability to deal with different levels of the organization comfortably
