Job Summary:
The Marine Exhaust Service Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of marine exhaust systems on various types of vessels. This role requires expertise in marine engineering, welding, and fabrication techniques specific to exhaust systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to ensure optimal performance and compliance with environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installation: Install new marine exhaust systems according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on existing marine exhaust systems to ensure proper functionality and compliance with regulations.
- Modifications: Modify existing exhaust systems to improve performance, efficiency, or compliance with changing regulations.
- Inspections: Conduct thorough inspections of exhaust systems to identify issues, leaks, or corrosion and recommend appropriate repairs or replacements.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all installations, maintenance activities, repairs, and modifications performed on exhaust systems.
- Customer Service: Communicate effectively with boat owners, operators, and service managers to explain findings, recommendations, and repair options.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards governing marine exhaust systems.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in marine engineering, welding, or fabrication is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in marine exhaust system installation, maintenance, and repair.
Skills:
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose exhaust system issues.
- Knowledge of materials used in marine exhaust systems and their corrosion resistance properties.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to interact with customers and team members.
- Certifications: Certification or specific training from marine exhaust system manufacturers is a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and perform tasks requiring physical exertion.
