Machine Maintenance Technician Repairs, maintains and improves machines and mechanical equipment such as motors, pneumatic tools, conveyors systems, and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties. Must have a variety of personal hand tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIILITIES includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Performs major and minor electrical repairs.
  • Performs start-up procedures and troubleshoots electrical and mechanical equipment.
  • Perform assigned preventative maintenance procedures on equipment, as assigned.
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Lubricates and clean parts.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Sets up and operates, lathe, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.
  • Initiates purchase orders for parts and machines.
  • Repairs electrical equipment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with one to three years directly related manufacturing maintenance experience is required. A maintenance apprenticeship certification is preferred with additional technical schooling.
