Health Department Director  

The Northwestern Band of Shoshone Nation (NWBSN or Tribe) is seeking a Health Department Director to implement, manage and improve Tribal health and medical services program.  Responsible for provision of effective and efficient health/medical services in coordination with the Tribal Executive Director and Council, Staff, Members, and Service Providers.  Provides leadership and general supervision of the Tribal Health Department ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures, contracts, and law.

This position will include the following duties and responsibilities:

·         Maintain strict confidentiality, discretion, resourcefulness, and sound judgment in handling sensitive issues, provides management oversight to contract healthcare providers and administrative guidelines.

·         Manages Tribal Member Health Benefits, providing comprehensive healthcare benefits to eligible tribal members and efficient operation and provision of quality health service for Tribal members.

·         Works with medical offices regarding billing and patient approvals

·         Reviews and evaluates accurate dissemination of Department information to the Executive Director

·         Representation on the Utah and Northwest Portland Indian Health Advisory Boards.

·         Maintain a working relationship with local health departments for collaboration and tribal member services.

·         Available for Tribal Members after hours and on weekends for reasonable questions.

·         Coordinate flu shots with county health departments

·         Answer routine information questions regarding the tribal member's needs.

·         Signs off for approval on request for purchases (RFPs) for various health service-related projects and procedures for all necessary review and approval for these documents to the Executive Director

·         Educates members on benefits and claims.

·         Maintain updated records.

Position requires a bachelor’s degree in health care administration, medical, business management, or related field and 5 years of relevant health administration experience and 5-8 years of experience with:

·         Understanding, application, and implementation of Federal and State Contract Health and HIPA Laws and Regulations to ensure that an adequate provider network is available for Tribal members and clients.

·         Public relations and interpersonal relations, exercising tact, diplomacy, and judgment.

·         Crisis intervention

·         Evaluating Health Insurance bids

·         Insurance claims management

·         Medicare, Medicaid, and open market options

·         Insurance benefits and claims training

·         Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Other skills desired:

·         Tribal Governance

·         Advisory Boards

·         Government grants and contracts

·         Native American decent preferred
