Maintenance Technician

Reports to: Director of Building Maintenance, Director of Buildings and Grounds

Department: Buildings and Grounds

FLSA Classification: Hourly + Benefits + Paid Time Off


Position Summary

Opportunity to be a part of the Buildings & Grounds Department at Delbarton School. A Maintenance technician maintains the appearance and functional conditions of the buildings and grounds of St. Mary’s Abbey and Delbarton School, including but not limited to grounds, athletic fields, classrooms, offices, bathrooms, corridors, HVAC and mechanical systems.


Responsibilities

  • Perform furniture repairs and assembly for all classrooms and offices

  • Respond to all maintenance requests and complete work orders in a timely manner

  • Basic computer/technology skills in order to access and use the work order system

  • Basic electrical (e.g. replace and repair light fixtures, receptacles, run conduit and box cable)

  • Conduct basic plumbing (e.g. replace and repair faucets, toilet bowls, drains and valves)

  • Perform basic preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment such as, air handlers, lubricate and adjust motors, change and adjust belts, and change air filters.

  • Operate and monitor hot water boilers.

  • Install sheetrock, and perform plastering, taping, and painting

  • Maintain and repair for all school property, tools and equipment

  • Replace/Repair leaking pipes

  • Assist in event set up when necessary (transport and set up tables and chairs)

  • Participate in snow removal (shoveling, plowing, snow blower, salt spreader)

  • Respond to all emergencies i.e. Snow, fire, flood etc.

  • Participate in fire drills

  • Assist grounds team with lawn care/field maintenance when necessary

  • Repair all doors and door hardware/key replacements

  • Painting and minor classroom repairs

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Building Maintenance

Requirements

  • 40+ hours a week, some weekend support during school events

  • Lift/Carry at least 50lbs+, work at height (ladder, lift, scaffolding), stand, stoop, and crawl for extended periods when necessary.

  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions including freezing or hot temperatures and Rain/Snow.

  • Black Seal Boiler Certification (or must obtain license within 6 months of hire.)

  • Pesticide Licence (preferred, but not required)
