Staff Accountant Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Staff Accountant DEPARTMENT: Accounting

GRADE: Non-Exempt REPORTS TO: Accounting Manager SUPERVISES: Not Applicable

JOB SUMMARY

The position will be responsible for preparing the monthly reconciliation of the various credit union accounts. Duties will also include managing the accounts payable cycle, to ensure all bills are paid in a timely manner and properly recorded. The accurate completion of all work, designated by direct supervisor and management, is expected on a timely basis.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be bondable/insurable
  • Strong arithmetic skills required
  • Must have a good-working knowledge of Excel
  • Duties require strong professional oral communication, reading, and writing skills
  • Possess an ability to interact effectively with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management
  • Requires the ability to read, speak, and write English fluently
  • Must present a professional appearance

Physical/Mental Requirements

  • Possess an aptitude to handle stressful situations
  • Capable of performing simple and complex tasks
  • Ability to comprehend/follow instructions, given both verbally and orally
  • Ability to maintain an appropriate clean and organized work space
  • Repetitive hand/finger action
  • Capacity to prioritize work load and is multi-tasked oriented
  • Endurance for sitting and or standing for long periods of time
  • Normal vision and hearing
  • Capable of operating various electrical office equipment
  • Job requires some sedentary work, consisting of occasional walking, standing, and lifting up to 30 pounds

Essential Job Functions

  • Perform Accounts Payable tasks
  • Execute ATM settlements
  • Process check returns
  • Book journal entries
  • Complete General Ledger reconciliations
  • Process payment for inventory items
  • Process payment for withholding - state and federal
  • Prepare personal property taxes from paper
  • Complete paper quarterly EDD forms
  • Filing of accounting paperwork
  • Contact vendors and complete processing of payments
  • Maintain vendor files
  • Participate in month-end processing
  • Handle fixed assets
  • Book payroll
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence
  • Other duties as assigned

Accountability

  • Uphold Clearpath standards, policies, and procedures
  • Accurately and timely complete the accounting cycle, reports, and all related financials
  • Achieve acceptable attendance and time management standards (i.e. absences, tardiness, breaks, and proper use of work time)

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment

Pay: $20.97 - $31.46 per hour

Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
