POSITION: Receptionist
CONTEXT: The 93,000 square foot Mansion House is a National Historic Landmark constructed between 1861 and 1914. It is owned and operated by Oneida Community Mansion House (OCMH). OCMH is a non-profit educational organization chartered in 1987 by the New York State Board of Regents. The building houses a museum, bookstore, residential apartments, overnight lodging and meeting space. The total property encompasses 200 acres including the Oneida Community Cemetery, historic gardens and grounds, and the country’s first corporate golf course.
OCMH is open to the public every day except major holidays, presenting guided tours, programs and exhibits about the lifeways and material culture of the Oneida Community and its successors, including the silverware manufacturer Oneida Ltd.
PURPOSE: The receptionist acts as a point of contact for guests and residents, performs admission control museum hours / events, handle money transactions (cash and credit card) for bookstore, overnight guests and residents.
RELATIONSHIPS: This position reports to the Hospitality Supervisor.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Normal shifts for the receptionists are: Varies on weekdays or weekends, 9:00 am - 4:00pm, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
In some instances flexibility will be required*
The receptionist is responsible for admitting visitors and guests, taking reservations, collecting admission fees, answering the telephone, and facilitating business needs of guests and residents. Occasional housekeeping tasks may be needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of customer / guest services
Knowledge of telephone etiquette and routing calls
Outgoing and friendly
Basic computer literacy
High School diploma or equivalent
Appreciation for the historic nature of OCMH
Ability to interact with all staff, visitors, overnight guests and residents
Customer service experience desired
