Job Summary: The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing heavy machinery and equipment used in construction, mining, and other industrial applications. This role requires a thorough understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems to ensure that equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspection and Diagnosis:

    • Conduct thorough inspections of heavy equipment, including excavators, bulldozers, loaders, cranes, and other machinery.
    • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
    • Identify problems and develop repair plans to address equipment malfunctions.
  • Maintenance and Repair:

    • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, and system calibrations.
    • Repair or replace defective parts such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic components.
    • Fabricate and weld parts or assemblies as required.
  • Documentation and Reporting:

    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and labor hours.
    • Prepare detailed reports on equipment condition and repair status for management.
    • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations in all maintenance and repair work.
  • Customer Service:

    • Communicate effectively with clients or operators to understand equipment issues and provide timely solutions.
    • Provide recommendations for equipment upgrades or replacements based on condition assessments.
  • Safety and Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) while working.
    • Ensure that all work is performed in accordance with company policies and regulatory standards.
    • Keep the work area clean and organized to promote a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in diesel mechanics, automotive technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a heavy equipment technician or mechanic, with a strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL or specialized endorsements may be required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
