Aurora, United States Field propulsion Technologies Inc. Full time $60,000 - $95,000
Job DescriptionJob Description

Job Overview:

This job supports researchers and engineers in prototyping HF RF systems to validate composite antennas. The job requires a technician to source and assemble debug high-power RF test systems to validate unconventional antenna designs. This job will involve everything from debugging, characterizing, repairing, and remanufacturing HF to VHF RF power systems. Operating and using all types of RF test equipment is necessary for this position—the ability to tune VHF systems for different frequencies, from strip lines to low-frequency circuits. A candidate must be able to use all types of electronic test equipment, from meters to spectrum analyzers and HF power amplifiers. Proficiency in soldering and other types of circuit rework will be required.

We are looking for a self-starter who will work with engineers and researchers to set up RF test systems and develop new ways of measuring RF radiation from antenna ends. Having an advanced ARRL license is a plus for this position. Understanding the vector equations of electromagnetics is required, and understanding the electromagnetic gauges and when they are valid and not valid is a plus for this position. Good troubleshooting skills for antennas and the ability to solve radiation issues are necessary for this job.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineers and researchers to understand their specific test system requirements.
  • Develop and implement HF and VHF power systems and their antennas.
  • Source HF and VHF equipment and test equipment for characterizing composite antennas.
  • Familiarity with setting up, operating, and maintaining RF antenna systems is essential.
  • RF Antenna Technician
  • Screening and characterizing different non-conventual composite antennas to determine the internal and external parameters.
  • Coordinate with engineers and researchers to develop testing scenarios.
  • Build and maintain test systems with limited documentation.
  • To design and build an RF test system based on operating specifications.
  • Experience designing and debugging thermal emission devices and circuits is a plus for this job.
  • Providing regular reports on the status of multiple projects is required.

Qualifications:

  • A technical degree or equivalent experience troubleshooting HF and VHF RF systems is required.
  • Extensive experience configuring and assembling HF and VHF communication systems, including expertise in installing ARRL Ham communication systems, is required.
  • Software skills and the ability to program test equipment software interface applications are necessary for different types of test equipment.
  • Lab View, NI-DAQ, Lab Windows, and NI Instrument studio experience is a plus.
  • A knowledge of modern electronic circuits and experience designing, building, and troubleshooting electronic circuits and equipment from the pre-1960s are desirable. Older professionals with experience working with pre-1960s equipment are also desired.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with individuals at all levels.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple recruitment projects simultaneously.
  • Using instrument software, DAQ software, Java, or C is needed for this position.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and a proactive approach to challenges.
  • Knowledge of electronic component design specifications and operation is necessary.
  • Understanding of systems integration across RF and baseband frequencies
  • Extensive RF systems and communications knowledge across open-air, closed-loop, and lab-level environments

Work Environment: This role is primarily in the office and electronics lab-based environment. Our company is a startup with flexible work schedules and variable working roles. It is rapidly growing and offers the potential for rapid advancement for the right individual.

Physical Requirements: The job may involve extended periods of sitting or standing, extensive use of computers, test equipment, phones, and occasional travel. Some heavy lifting and physical work may be needed at the start of the job and then taper off.
