This key role is essential to our mission of providing exceptional nursing education and meeting the growing healthcare needs of our community. The successful candidate will oversee the comprehensive development and implementation of the ADN program, ensuring it meets all regulatory standards set by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON). The primary responsibility of the ADN Program Director is to serve as a liaison with the Texas BON and lead the preparation and submission of a detailed proposal for program approval. According to the Texas BON New Proposal Approval Process, the proposal must include strong evidence of the program’s necessity, a well-developed curriculum, and the identification of qualified faculty and clinical sites. It should demonstrate that the curriculum is based on sound principles, incorporates required content, and includes adequate clinical practice settings with signed clinical contracts. The program can only begin and enroll students after the proposal is approved at a regularly scheduled BON meeting. The Program Director will manage all phases of the ADN program, from initial planning and administration to ongoing evaluation and continuous improvement. This includes overseeing the program budget, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, and building strategic partnerships with healthcare organizations and educational institutions. The Director will also be responsible for student retention, participate in student recruitment, faculty development, and community outreach to garner strong support for the program. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution, at least five years of diverse nursing experience since graduation from a professional nursing education program, and a minimum of three years of teaching experience in a professional nursing education program. The Program Director must be approved by the Texas BON within three months of hire. Additionally, the candidate should have demonstrated proficiency in using technology to enhance the teaching and learning process and experience collaborating with various educational, business, and governmental groups. Further responsibilities include developing and implementing program changes in response to community needs, directing the professional nursing education program in all its phases, and verifying students' completion of program requirements. The Program Director will also handle the completion and submission of required documentation, such as the Texas BON Affidavit of Graduation and the Nursing Education Program Information Survey (NEPIS). Maintaining positive partnerships with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB), the Texas Workforce Commission, and other relevant agencies is essential to ensure the program meets the needs of the local business and educational community. Initially, this position will be offered on a contract basis to allow for the development and approval stages of the ADN program. During this contract period, the Program Director will have the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to build and lead the program effectively. This transition will be reviewed and determined by the College based on the progress and success of the program establishment, student enrollment, and overall program effectiveness.
