Job Description: The Senior Electrical Systems Engineer is responsible for specifying, designing, integrating, and testing circuit cards and modules for Department of Defense (DoD) ground and airborne applications. This role demands a high degree of initiative and sound judgment, requiring the ability to work both independently and as part of the Electrical Hardware Development Team. Adaptability to changing conditions and the ability to collaborate in a team environment are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop circuit card assemblies (CCA) and modules, including test adapters and fielded systems.
  • Handle most aspects of circuit card design from concept through delivery to higher-level assemblies, including hardware/firmware designs with microcontrollers or microprocessors, FPGAs, memory, and industry interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, I2C, UART.
  • Specify, source, integrate, and leverage commercially available and government-sourced equipment for rapid capability prototype delivery.
  • Synthesize and document solutions, troubleshoot electrical design and installation errors, support Root Cause Corrective Action reports, and support test and delivery within schedule bounds.
  • Integrate aircraft power, low voltage DC control signals, ethernet, digital discrete input/output, and analog signals for the functional system.
  • Utilize simulation tools such as SPICE to model electronics behavior, design analog circuits to meet performance requirements, and perform component selection and schematic capture.
  • Guide Electronic Computer-Aided Design (ECAD) personnel through PWB layout of circuitry and technical drawing creation.
  • Use analysis tools like Mathcad and/or Matlab to assess the robustness of electrical design.
  • Perform and present design reviews to program leadership and technical staff, oversee equipment integration, characterization, and testing, requiring a minimum of three days of onsite presence locally.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Teams, OneNote, Azure DevOps, Excel, and e-mail).

Required Skills:

  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret level clearance.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Engineering design experience and a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related STEM field, or a master’s degree with relevant internship experience.
  • Self-starter, quick learner, able to function in a dynamic environment, with good time management skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills with adaptability to changing priorities and assignments.
  • Experience capturing key characteristics and requirements for systems, performing trade studies, and taking a design concept from block diagram or requirements level to complete hardware design leveraging COTS solutions, and verification via test.
  • Capable of functioning in multi-disciplined design teams across multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with SPICE (or similar) and other circuit simulation tools.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience using Altium Designer, or equivalent.
  • Experience performing time domain and AC signal analysis in LTSpice, QSpice, PSpice, and digital simulation environments such as ModelSim, Questa, and MATLAB / Mathcad.
  • Experience in the development and design of electronic circuit designs, multi-assembly system/unit design, and processor designs.
  • Team and project leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with military specifications or similar (MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464).
  • Design experience with environmental and electro-magnetic interference (EMI) concerns.
  • Experience in the development and design of electronic circuit designs, multi-assembly system/unit design, and processor designs.
  • Design, analysis, and/or test experience with power converters and analog electronics.

Education Requirements:

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and 5 years of related work experience.
