Seeking open-minded, dependable, and ambitious professionals with the confidence to support a young autistic man with complex support needs living in the West San Fernando Valley. We are currently seeking to fill weekend overnight (10pm-6am) and evening (2pm-10pm) positions.

This is a unique opportunity to learn from and contribute to a highly-skilled team that supports me in a neurodiversity-affirming way. While my support needs are high and complex, access to my preferred method of communication, supported by trained and trusted partners, allows me to lead a self-directed life of my design. My current movement and nervous system regulation challenges make navigating life very difficult, but the right support partners can help me access many activities that I enjoy, such as a long walk (or run), a drive or a game of basketball.

General job description: 
As a member of this team you will play a key role in supporting the well-being of your client and helping him to live a meaningful life. You will be providing support to assist with all aspects of his day at home and in the community which may include the following:

  • Assisting with transitions between locations and activities
  • Enjoying fun and connected time together
  • Supporting his participation in planned exercises and activities
  • Looking for opportunities to allow for independent initiation and follow-through with activities
  • Supporting communication and regulation
  • Hands-on personal care 
  • Preparing meals and snacks
  • Maintaining a clean and orderly environment
  • Monitoring medication
  • Providing transportation 
  • Running errands 
  • Collaborating with family members and support staff to provide regular updates on the client’s needs and status.

While these are common areas of responsibility, support needs may shift from day to day based on the client’s needs and preferences. Training provided.

Key qualities:
This position is best suited for a candidate who is patient, flexible and able to think on their feet. It requires someone who is:

  • Proactive and able to take initiative 
  • Able to remain engaged during periods of inactivity and high activity alike
  • Able to provide high-level support and remain calm during various states of regulation
  • Active and able to support and participate in physical exercises and activities
  • Motivated to learn and to challenge preconceived notions about supporting autistic people.

You will be working consistently and closely with a bright and interesting young man. As such, it is not only important to be able to meet and support his basic needs, but to have an interest in getting to know him and building a positive and trusting relationship. The ability to work collaboratively with the client, family and team is essential to success in this position. 

Hours: 

  • Part-time (16 to 24 hours per week) positions available
  • Evening, Overnight and Weekend shifts available

Requirements

  • Reliable transportation and clean driving record (confirmed by DMV check)
  • Must be willing to submit background check
  • Comfortable with following requested COVID or other medical protocols 
  • Ability to keep up with high energy situations at all hours
  • Other helpful qualifications 
  • Experience supporting complex movement, regulation and communication needs/AAC
  • Familiarity with autism and/or disability
  • Have a background in psychology, OT/PT, Neurology and/or healing arts professions 
  • Lead an active lifestyle
