Period of Performance: Full-time position- 1 year base contract (possible extension)
Start Date: 05/01/2024
Salary: The compensation for a Phlebotomist is $18.06 per hour + $4.57 health & welfare allowance which = $22.63 per hour. Is this salary acceptable?
Clearance Requirement: Must be able to pass a NACI background check/ still checking for background clearance requirements.
Preference: One (1) year of recent Phlebotomy experience with technical medical laboratory support work such as collecting adequate and correct blood specimens by venipuncture.
Additional: Work shift schedules vary from- Day, Evening & Night shifts

Job Description/ Phlebotomist:
Functional Responsibility:
- The phlebotomist will perform patient phlebotomy to include inpatient ward rounds, inpatient
and outpatient, Emergency Department (ED), STAT and as soon as possible (ASAP), and time
draws.
- Perform sample processing.
- As part of safety, positively identify patients before sample collection and samples before
testing or aliquoting. Safeguards electronic and paper patient information.
- Independently tests, evaluates, documents, and reports patient testing and Quality Control (QC);
identifies, documents, and resolves any collection, processing, testing, or reporting issues.

- Assures patient-centered care and provides service in a manner that is professional and will avoid
complaints from all stakeholders and customers.
- Performs patient and QC testing according to established protocols and is active in the College of
American Pathologists (CAP) Proficiency Testing (PT) Program.
- Respond in a timely and appropriate manner (i.e., STAT, ASAP, and Routine).
- Sorts and processes specimens received in the central specimen receipt area of the department in order
of priority for best patient results and to meet turnaround time goals.
- Shall be responsible for abiding by the Facility's Medical Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations
(referenced herein) that govern medical staff behavior.
- May participate in continuous quality improvement activities and meetings with committee
participation as required by the VAMC Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or designee.
- May attend staff meetings as required by the VAMC Chief of Service, Chief of Staff, or
designee.
- Complete the appropriate QM/PI documentation according to the laboratory quality plan and all
quality assurance protocols.
- Follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care. Make every effort to
prevent errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery
of care.
Qualifications:
- One (1) year of recent Phlebotomy experience with technical medical laboratory support work such as collecting adequate and correct blood specimens by venipuncture.
- Familiar with all urgencies.
- Technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government’s requirements, including the
ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently.
