Qualified Mental Health Professional-C/T  Intensive In-Home Counselor provides direct services to include: treatment plan development and implementation with children and families and counseling and parent skill training, through the use of proper therapeutic interventions. The In Home Counselor works independently in clients’ home and other community settings, utilizing creative clinical interventions based on best practice models and learned counseling techniques to work effectively with children and families. The In-Home Counselor must be willing to travel throughout Hampton roads to provide intensive in-home services to clients.

Quality Mental Health Professional-A/T  Mental Health Skill Building worker will be able to provide necessary treatment and social supports through individualized counseling and life skills training to adults 18 years of age and older who, due to mental illness, would otherwise have difficulties maintaining community stability and independence. Some of the major areas of focus would include daily living skills training, accessing community resources, health and safety, financial management, and social supports. Mental Health Skill Building services are individualized, person centers, and are facilitated in the individual's home and their community. The MHSS worker must be willing to travel throughout Hampton roads to provide intensive in-home services to clients.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a QMHP-C or QMHP-A  or QHMP-T credentials granted by the State of Virginia. 
  • Experience with writing clinical counseling notes, quarterly reports, individual service plans, crisis reports and mental health notations needed.
  • Able to commit to weekly supervision if providing intensive in home services
  • Available for needed professional trainings TOVA, CPR, Frist Aide etc.
  • Must have own transportation
  • Must be able to take on cases in the surrounding 757 area. (Office is located in Newport News VA, clients may be located in the metropolitan areas).

Minimum Qualifications:

i. Have a master's degree in psychology from an accredited college or university with at least 1 year of clinical experience; or

ii. Have a social work bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university with at least 1 year of clinical experience with children and adolscents; or

iii. Have at least a bachelor's degree in a human service field or in special education from an accredited college.

  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development
  • Knowledge of factors which may contribute to family dysfunction
  • Knowledge of behavioral management techniques
  • General knowledge of community resources and services
  • Knowledge of crisis prevention strategies

  • Ability to follow directives and implement interventions provided by supervisor
  • Effective strong communication skills (verbal and written clinically)

Training and Certification Requirements:

Staff must be certified and trained in

  • CPR
  • First Aid
  • TOVA
  • Oriented to the agency's guidelines, policy, and procedures, and take part in all staff trainings as they occur
  • Must be certified as Tuberculosis free with up-to-date TB results
  • Must clear criminal background and CPS registry checks
