Post-Baccalaureate Medical School Applicant Fellowship

The OrthoLegal Fellowship is designed for recent graduates of a four-year undergraduate
institution planning to enter medical school in the Fall of 2025 or Fall of 2026. Founded by
Orthopaedic Surgeon and Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) Alexis E. Dixon, MD, OrthoLegal
supports MedicoLegal practices for Orthopaedic Surgeons and Pain Management physicians. As
a fellow, you will learn directly from Orthopaedic Surgeons and Pain Management physicians,
gaining insight into both clinical medicine and legal aspects of their practice. More than one in
four Orthopaedic Surgeons in California has an expert witness practice, and this is a common
responsibility for practicing physicians.
The fellowship covers clinics in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, along with
the Headquarters in Marina del Rey, California. This paid fellowship ($25/hour) runs from 8:30am
to 5pm (at Headquarters) or 7:45am to 3:45pm (at various clinics) with full-time 40-hour work
weeks. There are two possible working schedules: Monday to Friday or Tuesday to Saturday. The
schedule is designed to be a full-time position while accommodating the demands for medical
school applications and personal lifestyle considerations. This is an in-person fellowship.
You will engage in a unique blend of medical assistant and case management responsibilities
through working on the field during evaluation days and at our headquarters. We manage the
medico-legal practice of 70 physicians at OrthoLegal, in which you will have the opportunity to
work directly with them and develop relationships with. Through this fellowship, you will also be
exposed to special projects based on individual interests and new specific needs for the company.

Requirements:
• BA or BS from four-year accredited undergraduate institution
• Planning to matriculate into medical school in the Fall of 2025 or Fall of 2026
• Completed the MCAT by three months prior to start date with a minimum score of 500
Responsibilities as a Medical Assistant (Front and Back Office):
o Assist the physicians during evaluation days
o Take patient vitals; intake paperwork, and room patients
o Liaise with insurance adjusters, attorneys, and legal support staff
o Schedule and verify appointments with
o Medical Record and Cover Letter processing including archival and transmission
to the appropriate parties attorneys, patients, and other clients over the phone, text,
and email
o Submission of MedicoLegal reports to the appropriate parties
o Facilitate efficient running of the MedicoLegal clinic
o If greater abilities are noticed in certain aspects of Medical Assistant and Case
Management work, more specialized tasks may be assigned with experience.
Due to the fast-paced environment of our rapidly growing company, candidates must demonstrate
extreme attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and effective communication skills.
Under the mentorship of over 70 physicians, the fellows will have exciting opportunities such as
shadowing in the OR, attending medical conferences (American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons, Western Orthopaedic Association, The American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society,
California Applicants’ Attorneys Association), medical assisting in Northern and Southern
California with our physicians listed there, and receiving a letter of recommendation upon
successful completion.
Before the start of the program, fellows will spend a week being trained by the previous cohort, in
which they will help them accustom to the roles and provide mentorship for the program or the
medical school application cycle.
