Job Opportunity: Senior Accountant

Location: Branford, Connecticut

Company: A leading wholesaler in the food industry

Overview: Our client, a prominent wholesaler in the food industry based in Branford, Connecticut, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager. The ideal candidate will have a background in wholesaling and possess strong leadership and financial management skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor systems for general accounting.
  • Review and analyze the organization's accounting operations; establish and recommend economic objectives and policies to management.
  • Prepare and analyze financial and operational reports, including those required by regulatory agencies, banks, investors, and other external parties.
  • Participate in budget and forecast preparation.
  • Manage the monthly accounting close cycle and prepare month-end financial statements.
  • Review and analyze financial information, detailing assets, liabilities, and capital.
  • Audit and review the general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable systems.
  • Coordinate year-end audits.
  • Hire, train, supervise, motivate, and develop staff; manage schedules and workflow.
  • Assign duties and monitor work quality, ensuring staff compliance with organizational policies and government regulations.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight of subordinates, actively promoting and recognizing performance.
  • Stay updated on team activities, identifying problem areas and implementing corrective actions.
  • Assume the tasks of direct staff when they are overloaded or on PTO, demonstrating proficiency in both performing and supervising the work.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervise three employees: an A/P Specialist, an A/R Specialist, and a General Accountant.
  • Execute supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Two to four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven ability to supervise and motivate subordinates.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; ability to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Strong competence in the duties and tasks of supervised employees.
  • Working knowledge of data collection, analysis, evaluation, and scientific methods.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

Additional Note: Candidates with a background in wholesaling are strongly preferred.
