Job description

We are seeking a skilled General Accountant to join our residential real estate company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing financial transactions, analyzing financial data, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. Being familiar with HUD market multifamily and REAC program standards and compliance is preferred. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively with little to no supervision after probationary period.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the company's financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, and bank reconciliations.

  • Analyze financial data and prepare accurate and timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

  • Monitor and track expenses, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints and identifying opportunities for cost savings.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management review.

  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts, providing insights and recommendations to improve financial performance.

  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, standards, and regulations, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

  • Collaborate with internal teams to streamline financial processes, improve efficiency, and enhance internal controls.

  • Support external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations of financial transactions.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in accounting and financial reporting.

  • Perform other ad hoc financial analysis and projects, as assigned by management.


 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent experience of at least five years with Associates Degree in Accounting will be considered.

  • CPA certification or eligible preferred but not required

  • Proven experience as a General Accountant or similar role in the real estate industry.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.

  • Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office, AppFolio, QuickBooks, Dancing Numbers, particularly Excel.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
