GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Under general supervision, performs a variety of routine, unlicensed, semi-skilled maintenance for IAAM facilities; ensures that facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, painting, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical trades work. Operates a variety of maintenance and cleaning tools and equipment; and performs related work as required. Receives general supervision from Facilities Superintendent or designee.

Duties/Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Performs a variety of routine, unlicensed, semi-skilled maintenance for IAAM facilities, including, but not limited to, carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical, trades work.
  • Ensures that facilities are available for use and consistently maintained in a safe and clean condition.
  • Assembles, repairs, maintains, and moves furniture, such as desks, cabinets, tables, chairs, shelves, and related fittings and fixtures.
  • Assists with installation and maintenance of exhibits items, display cases, historical artifacts, artworks, and associated audio-visual systems.
  • Conducts routine inspections and conducts maintenance of electrical, audio-visual, plumbing, heating, and air conditioning equipment; identifies and reports more complex maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Inspects facilities and grounds for safety and security and corrects problems / deficiencies; identifies and reports hazardous conditions and facility maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Follows safe working practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
  • Assists with custodial care of the building and grounds.
  • Maintains records and logs of daily activities.
  • Sets up and takes down furniture and equipment for special events, including chairs, tables, podiums, lecterns, PA equipment, projection equipment and screens, etc.
  • Assists with crowd management and emergency incident response.
  • Performs related duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Methods and techniques used in the operation, repair, and maintenance of facilities and equipment.
  • Fluency with personal computers, mobile devices, and software.
  • Operational characteristics of a variety of tools and equipment.
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
  • Principles and practices of record-keeping.
  • Principles and practices for providing high level of customer service.
  • Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment and applications.
  • Perform semi-skilled facility maintenance.
  • Work semi-independently, occasionally with limited or no supervision.
  • Safely and effectively use, operate, and maintain equipment and tools.
  • Perform heavy manual labor.
  • Understand, interpret, and apply all pertinent laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills and establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 years of relevant work experience in facilities maintenance.
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Trades Licenses and/or Certifications is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license

Working Conditions

May be assigned an on-call and irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
