The Community Health Center Network (CHCN), sister organization to the Alameda Health Consortium, is made up of the eight federally qualified community health centers in Alameda County. CHCN functions as the managed care MSO for our health centers, contracting with the Alameda Alliance for Health. Position Title: Staff Accountant
Department: Finance
Reports To: General Accounting Manager
Classification: Non-Exempt
Status: Full-Time Regular, Hybrid
Salary Range: $33.87 hour to $40.80 hour
Candidate must be willing to have primary residence in California. For licensing and tax purposes, we are unable to hire candidates residing outside of the state of California starting on the date of hire.
POSITION SUMMARY
The staff accountant is responsible for the daily accounting functions of the organization including preparing and recording revenue, liabilities, and expenses, managing accounts receivable, calculating, and posting cost allocations, preparing memorized reports, processing payments to clinics and researching items as needed. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and a commitment to upholding the financial stewardship and mission of our organization.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESULTS

- Maintain cash receipts, cash disbursements, and accounts receivables, allocate and post journal entries, for capitation payments and risk share payments to the clinics, and Fee for Service (FFS) payments for all providers.
- Manage month-end close, including bank reconciliations (monitoring, reconciling, and resolving discrepancies for all bank accounts), Balance Sheet accounts reconciliation, prepare, post, and verify input of journal entries, and must serve as a liaison with year-end audit and schedule preparation, and ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information for the organization.
- Conduct variance analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Responsible for fielding and resolving vendor questions including Staff questions.
- Prepare financial reports for internal management, including BOD & Finance Committee Meeting (FCM) and external agencies.
- Assist Eligibility Analysts with membership and active member reports.
- Prepare and process Stop Loss insurance payments and reports.
- Assist in producing on-going financials, other analytical and financial reports.
- Responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions.
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including non-profit and health care-specific requirements.
- Analyze and prepare reports to the HMO’s for monthly reimbursement.
- Process yearly 1099 report for contractors and consultants.
- Maintain filing system for Finance/Accounting department.

Essential Requirements
- B.S. degree Accounting or Finance required. CPA or working towards it, is preferred.
- Proficient in spreadsheet and word processing software.
- At least 2 years accounting experience in QuickBooks, required. NetSuite, Sage Intacct, and other accounting software and systems experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with computerized information systems and other software programs required.
- Experience in the health industry desired.
- Understanding of community health centers.
