Who are we?
Novastar Academy is a K-12 educational program continuum. Our goal is to transform teaching
practice, learning experiences, and community engagement becoming a cutting-edge
laboratory school. We emphasize the development of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values
young people need to become lifelong learners and productively engaged world citizens.
Novastar Academy charter school is planned to open in August 2023 for kindergarten through
eighth grades to serve diverse students and families. Nova Academy will provide students with
agency in learning through a focus on international academic standards, multiliteracy, and
emotional maturity while engaged in interdisciplinary project-based STEAM learning and
workplace explorations.
Novastar Academy aims to support the unique needs and goals of each student using a
personalized competency-based instructional model and purposely designed, web-based
learning platform. Our school environment re-orients the use of time, resources, and physical
space to serve students' individual needs by combining a blend of online personalized
academic instruction with live in-person, project-based lab time, internships, international
collaboration, and local community service projects.

What are we looking for?
Nova Academy is seeking a passionate and innovative school leader with high standards of
ethics and integrity. The Executive School Director (ESD) will be charged with the culturally
responsive curriculum development and oversight, implementation of advanced educational
technologies in an innovative model of a laboratory school environment. The ESD will support
Nova Academy instructional practices in our classrooms through designing and facilitating
data-informed and equity-focused professional development for teachers and leaders. The ESD
will work in collaboration with the school CTE Director in building and sustaining the working
relationship with the local businesses and organizations. In partnership with the advisory school
councils and the governing Board of Directors, the ESD will support advocacy for social justice
and equitable educational opportunities for all students and families.
Core Competencies

  • Knowledge of adult learning theory and ability to lead teams in the development and delivery of learner-centered, relationship-based, and purposeful curriculum and instruction.

Responsibilities and Outcomes
  • Build and sustain the school culture upholding of core values and maintaining a safe school environment
  • Implement and effectively operationalize the schools vision and mission
  • Provide leadership and management to the school leadership team through overseeing the school development, operations, instructions and student performance.
  • Develop and empower a high performing leadership team of administrators, teachers, and support staff.
  • Work in close collaboration with the schools Governing Board to advise, develop and implement the school policies.
  • Maintain the oversight of the educational programs and continuous instruction improvement
  • In collaboration with instructional leadership, design, facilitate and deliver professional development for leaders and teachers
  • Lead and facilitate learning walks with other leaders to assess the quality of teaching & learning
  • Oversee fiscal accountability and reporting in daily school operations and finances.
  • Establishes and maintains efficient procedures and effective financial controls for all expenditures of the school funds in accordance with an approved budget
  • Works with the Governing Board to develop and manage an annual operating budget.
The required qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Education, Education Administration or MBA
  • Administrator/Superintendent/Principal License
  • Administrative or leadership experience in an educational environment
  • Effective communication, organizational, and delegation skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Colorado Academic Standards (CAS)
  • Successful experience with staff supervision and budget management
  • Experience in hybrid/blended/online educational programs.
The preferred qualifications:
  • Experience in creating and implementation of culturally responsive curriculum
  • Experience in a charter school environment
