Essential Functions

A Journeyman Carpenter - Concrete will be responsible for executing construction site carpentry activities and mentoring Apprentice Carpenters participating in the Apprenticeship Program.

  • Support and adhere to safety standards and initiatives. Participate in Stretch and Flex and attend Toolbox Talks. Identify and anticipate job activity hazards and complete daily Top 5. Assist with the completion of Job Hazards Analysis (JHA), as requested. Complete pre-task plans. Adhere to housekeeping standards and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) requirements. Identify safety hazards on the job and work to address them as appropriate; handle the concerns or escalate to Leadman/Foreman. Follow safety protocols, to include inspecting and maintaining safety gear, equipment, and tools. Set up stanchions and install handrails and safety rails.
  • Mentor Apprentice Carpenters. Provide explanations for understanding, teach apprenticeship skills on-the-job, and provide coaching and feedback to drive continued learning. Confirm the quality of Apprentice work as conducted.
  • Complete carpentry self-perform tasks with quality. Leverage basic skills and knowledge to problem-solve and complete tasks, partnering with others for assistance when learning new skills. Anticipate how long tasks will take to complete, plan accordingly, advise Leadman/Foreman of ability to complete in a specific timeframe, and strive to meet production schedule. Assist Carpenter Foreman with estimating and materials listing for self-perform tasks.
  • Follow directions provided by the Leadman or Foreman with accuracy. Apply an understanding of carpentry terminology and the construction industry to execute with excellence. Ask questions and seek understanding, clarifying when tasks are not clearly understood. Remain open and flexible to changes. Submit time entry in a timely manner.
  • Actively seek career and professional growth. Attend company and/or industry trainings and offerings. Set personal performance and learning goals during performance Actively seek professional development, as appropriate.
  • Represent the GE Johnson (A DPR Consruction Company) brand, ethics, and values. Model desired performance, professionalism, conduct and behaviors. Serve as an example on the jobsite. Foster collaboration and teamwork. Take initiative and responsibility for work quality.

Work Environment

This job operates in a construction work site environment. This role routinely works outside in varying weather conditions. Work may require occasional weekend and evening work.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full time. Work may necessitate a flexible schedule and/or extended hours when required by project schedule.

Travel

Ability to travel to various jobsites where GE Johnson (A DPR Construction Company) conduct business. Ability to relocate for project assignments.

Required Education And Experience

  • OSHA 10 completion or ability to complete within 120 days
  • 3+ Years Commercial Construction Concrete experience

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Completion of the Carpenter Apprentice Program
  • High School Diploma
  • Spanish Bilingual
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • OSHA 30 completion or ability to complete within 120 days
  • Forklift and/or boom lift certification
  • Experience working with Special Projects
  • Basic welding experience
  • Rigging certification
  • Previous experience mentoring or training others
