Job DescriptionJob Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled custom upholster based in Charleston SC. HIMALAYA specializes in building fully custom Land Rover Defenders from the ground up. Staying close to the classic aesthetic while incorporating modern components. Repowering the vehicles with new engines (Choosing from the GM LS3, LT1, LT4 and the Cummins R2.8 diesel), further customization into the drivetrain with Dynatrac axles, Brembo brakes and a custom coil-over suspension. A modern take on an iconic 4x4.

Our paint department is in a air conditioned space with a brand new paint booth and mixing station.

We are based in Charleston SC and are looking to add a painter to our team. This is a great opportunity to be an integral part of a growing company with an unwavering commitment to quality and craftsmanship.

The ideal candidate is…

  • Experience painting vintage or custom cars
  • Ability to handle paint and body work
  • Self Starter
  • Work independently, with others, and when to ask for guidance / assistance
  • Mechanically / detail-oriented, complete jobs quickly, and complete jobs accurate

The position...

  • Operates and uses all body shop equipment properly and safely
  • Removes rust from metal, and grease and dirt from work surface.
  • Masks and protects parts that are not to be painted or coated
  • Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface.
  • Strip door mechanics and rebuild
  • Reskins exterior aluminum body panels using new panels
  • Mixes paint according to specifications.
  • Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color.
  • Paints surface using sprayer or brush as appropriate.
  • Inspects painted units for quality of workmanship, noting any runs, sags and unpainted areas.
