Position Overview:

This position ensures delivery of high quality and safe SAMBAZON products across multiple product lines and production facilities. The Senior QA Manager must understand, support, & manage technical documentation for finished products, raw materials, & contract-manufacturing facilities. This includes quality control for raw materials & finished goods, facilitating communications & problem solving between the co-manufacturer & SAMBAZON when products are out of specification or placed on hold. Additionally, the Senior QA Manager will support continuous improvement and provide expertise in food safety and quality programs for two company owned production facilities located in Brazil.

The role offers a generous benefits package, an annual bonus opportunity, and half-day Fridays This position will work on-site in our San Clemente office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure highest quality and food safety of all finished goods produced at multiple manufacturing sites. Ensure product parity across US co-manufacturing & Brazil production facilities.
  • Review production retains (analytical and sensory measurements) for quality attributes & adherence to product specifications, confirm COA’s are completed for all finished products.
  • Release finished product & place non-compliant lots on hold as needed. Review production documents and update data in Filemaker.
  • Schedule, manage, and report finished product evaluations (analytical and sensory).
  • Verify that SAMBAZON & co-manufacturers HACCP, Standard Operating Procedures & Good Manufacturing Practices are followed in both processing & packaging operations.
  • Submit non-compliance reports to co-mans and verify institution of corrective actions.
  • Review quality documents for ingredient suppliers and co-manufacturers to ensure compliance with SAMBAZON quality program standards. Work cross functionally to approve new ingredients, suppliers, and co-mans. Set quality standards, ensure FSMA compliance, assess risk, evaluate materials for shelf life extensions, support development of SOP’s, and conduct audits.
  • Assist team in managing changes & exceptions with co-manufacturers at production runs. May include writing procedures and handling instructions for Co-manufacturers, rework and special projects.
  • Assist Brazil facilities QA team for quality program development and adherence. Review production and QA documents and support team on corrective actions.
  • Create & utilize Quarterly Customer Complaint Scorecard for objective evaluation of all products manufactured, CPG and Foodservice. Track and report customer complaints, work with co-manufacturers and cross functional teams to develop corrective action plans and reduce complaints.
  • Research and follow up on quality related consumer complaints via Zendesk or relevant tool.
  • Maintain co-man quality KPIs to feed into Co-Man Quarterly Scorecard managed by Production Planning.
  • Manage SAMBAZON QA lab and work collaboratively with Product Development team for sensory sampling, participate in key quality related calls with co-manufacturers.
  • Provide technical support for Sales, Marketing, Operations on all Quality capabilities, procedures, & issues. Support industrial sales business with customer requested documentation.

Key Experiences and Education:

  • 6+ years of quality assurance and/or food manufacturing experience
  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Food Science or Engineering
  • PCQI certificate is a plus

  • Understanding of food processing, packaging, & sensory systems.
  • Knowledge of key processing platforms & food safety risks in juice/beverage manufacturing, frozen dessert manufacturing, frozen novelties, & freeze-drying.
  • Computer systems & quality applications.
  • Ability to manipulate & develop mathematical calculations as it relates to product formulations.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills for addressing all levels of the SAMBAZON business, customers, consumers, regulatory authorities, consulting experts, & global colleagues.
