Head Teacher for Gifted Learning Support Program

We are excited to launch a new program designed to support gifted students who need additional assistance within mainstream classrooms. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head Teacher/Program Lead to lead this initiative initially focused on middle school aged children. This will be an embedded program inside a mainstream private school for gifted students who have interfering learning disabilities.
Please note this position is only open to someone who has worked as a head teacher in a special education environment for 7 or more years. Please do not apply do not meet this qualification.
Job Description:
We are looking for a dedicated Head Teacher who will primarily work with gifted children who have learning support needs inside a mainstream school. Candidates should view themselves as mentors and be motivated to share their love of learning in subjects such as ELA science and mathematics. They should have extensive experience supporting pragmatic language skills, especially in writing. The ideal candidate will have over 7 years of experience working with children aged 12-15, including those with writing and executive function support requirements that cannot be met inside a typical supportive school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the new gifted support program, ensuring its successful integration within the school.
- Provide one-on-one support to gifted students, focusing on non-behavioral learning support needs.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between program students and general teaching staff to ensure effective support in regular classes.
- Establish program classroom routines to support students' language and executive function support needs.
- Help build and train a team of Assistant Teachers.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Certificate or Master’s Degree in Learning Disabilities, Special Education, or a related field REQUIRED
- At least 7 years of experience working with children aged 12-16, particularly who have writing and executive function support needs.
- Extensive knowledge of history, literature, philosophy, and STEM a plus.
- Experience with Orton-Gillingham
- Demonstrated ability to support and improve students' writing skills.
- Proven track record of helping students with executive function disorders become better learners.
