Job Description: Millworker

Reports To:  Operations Manager/Shop Foreman 

We are seeking a skilled millworker, specializing in stair construction, to join our team. As a Millworker at our company, you will play a crucial role in the production of high-quality stair components. Your primary responsibility will be to fabricate stair parts according to specifications, ensuring precision and attention to detail throughout the manufacturing process. Additionally, you will be responsible for the maintenance of woodworking machinery to ensure optimal performance.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

o              Experience: Proven experience as a Millworker or similar role, with a focus on stair construction. Previous experience in a manufacturing or woodworking environment is highly desirable.

o             Stair Component Fabrication: Construct various stair components such as treads, risers, balusters, handrails, and newel posts using woodworking machinery and hand tools.

o              Measurement and Cutting: Accurately measure and cut materials to precise dimensions, adhering to project specifications and quality standards.

o             Cutting and Shaping: Use carpentry tools such as saws, routers, and chisels to cut and shape wooden components according to design requirements.

o             Machine Operation: Operate a variety of woodworking machinery, including saws, routers, planers, and sanders. Willingness to learn and adapt to new machinery as required.

o             Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks on woodworking machinery to ensure optimal performance and prevent breakdowns. This includes cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed.

o             Interpret Blueprints: Read and interpret architectural blueprints and technical drawings to understand project requirements and specifications.

o             Quality Control: Conduct thorough inspections of finished products to identify any defects or imperfections. Make necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with quality standards.

o             Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for yourself and team members and/or as OSHA standards applicable to the responsibilities above.

o             Material Selection: Select appropriate wood materials based on project specifications, ensuring quality and suitability for stair construction.

o             Communication: Collaborate with project managers, shop foreman, operation manager, and other team members to coordinate work activities and ensure project deadlines are met.

Essential Qualifications

o        Ability to lift heavy items up to 60 pounds consistently required.

o        Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods

o        Ability to identify and measure material.

o        Ability to produce quality products consistently.

o        Ability to follow instructions given both verbally and in written form.

o        Willingness to learn and work to the best of his/her abilities as well as dependable work ethic.

o        Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs and uses.

o        Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction

o        Hands –on experience in working with carpentry materials.

o        Ability to read blueprints, drawings, calipers, tape measures and angle gauges.

Requirements:

o    Proven Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience as a carpenter, with a focus on wood stair construction.

o    Carpentry Skills: Proficiency in using carpentry tools and equipment, including saws, drills, routers, and measuring devices.

o    Blueprint Reading: Ability to read and interpret architectural blueprints and technical drawings accurately.

o    Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and precision to ensure accurate measurements, cuts, and assembly of stair components.

o    Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, standing for extended periods, and working at heights.

o    Team Player: Excellent teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and project stakeholders.

o    Safety Consciousness: Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to all safety regulations and protocols.

o    Reliability: Dependable and punctual with a strong work ethic and the ability to complete projects on time and within budget.
