Essential Functions  

  • Install, maintain, repair, and upgrade electrical systems and components.
  • Work on panels, switches, motors, controls, and other electrical apparatus.
  • Inspect, test, and diagnose electrical systems and components.
  • Troubleshoot issues and perform timely repairs.
  • Document all work activities using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Assist in developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Read and interpret electrical plans and blueprints.
  • Operate and maintain electrical tools and instruments.
  • Run conduit, pull, splice, and terminate wiring.
  • Work on underground wiring, including in trenches and vaults.
  • Follow safety procedures and operate District vehicles as required.
  • Participate in stand-by duties.
  • Initiate and purchase equipment, parts, and supplies as needed.
  • Estimate labor and materials for electrical projects.
  • Layout work at project sites.
  • Prepare reports on time and materials used.
  • Direct and oversee the work of helpers.
  • Requisition supplies and materials.
  • Train others in electrical installation and repair.

Education & Certification Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Licenses: Valid Class C California Driver’s License and a safe driving record required.

 Desirable:

  • State of California Electrical Apprenticeship Certificate of Completion.
  • CWEA Electrical & Instrumentation Certificate 1 (for Electrician I).
  • CWEA Electrical & Instrumentation Certificate 2 (for Electrician II).

Experience Requirements

  • 4 years of experience in complex electrical work, preferably related to large water/wastewater systems.
