Legal Assistant

Position Summary: Investigates facts and prepares documents to assist attorney by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Prepares, transcribe, and proofread legal documents such as pleadings, affidavits, motions, orders, answers, briefs, memoranda, correspondence, and other documents for review, approval, and use by attorney.
- Calculates statutorily or court-imposed deadline and ensures that all deadlines are met and submits all court and client related material.
- Prepares requests or subpoenas and/or necessary documents depending upon the type of case.
- Maintain legal filing and record systems, organize, and analyze document information, may include preparation of database.
- Prepares drafts of discovery and document production in response to discovery requests or prepares data for attorney’s use in preparing discovery responses.
- Coordinates scheduling of depositions and prepares drafts of notices of same.
- Summarizes depositions and/or other records.
- Prepares witness binders.
- Prepares background searches on individuals for various reasons.
- Assists with trial preparation, including witness lists, exhibits and trial binders.
- Maintains client contact in a professional demeanor.
Qualifications
- Two or more years of experience in a legal secretarial position, or other legal roles is required.
- A willingness to learn, as on-the-job training will be provided to the right candidate.
