Job DescriptionJob Description

The custodian is responsible for the appearance, cleanliness and maintenance of buildings and areas of the Church. The position requires approximately up to 20 hours per week with a flexible schedule.

Qualifications/Skills

Knowledge of standard cleaning methods and procedures

Ability to stand, walk and bend with ease

Ability to perform repetitive motion for periods of time

Experience with using cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers and cleaning solutions

Background in handling, mixing and using cleaning chemicals

Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules

Communication skills

Ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and work at particular heights

 

Duties may include:

Cleaning: Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting including windowsills and scrubbing floors and equipment

Sanitizing: Cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms, kitchen sinks, counters, water fountain and custodial equipment

Trash: Emptying trash receptacles and collecting recycling

Repairs: Performing minor repairs, such as light bulbs, toilet flappers or fixing furniture

Security: Ensuring buildings are secure by locking and unlocking doors, windows, and gates when necessary

Safety: Reporting any safety, sanitary or fire hazards

Grounds: Pick up trash, keep walkways clear of debris

Additional Duties required will be to wipe down wooden horizontal & vertical surfaces with appropriate cleaning solution

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent

Basic math skill

One year of janitorial experience preferred
