We are looking for a dedicated Microbiology Analyst to join the team.

Summary: 

The Microbiology Analyst I will have the unique experience of assisting the laboratory grown from concept and planning to a full-scale laboratory as part of a new product introduction and future commercialization/launch. The Microbiology Analyst I will be part of the Microbiology team that will help build up toward commercial readiness of the Manufacturing Facility and will execute lab functions as listed below. 

This role will interact with other departments of the organization in a collaborative and positive way. Quality as a whole works closely with colleagues to facilitate department and organization initiatives for cultural cohesion aligned to the DiscGenics Values.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs and/or reviews microbiological tests such as Gram stain, endotoxin, growth promotion, and microbial enumeration.
  • Performs testing on raw materials, in-process, and final products to ensure material quality.
  • Performs/collects samples for environmental monitoring testing of viable/non-viable air, surfaces, compressed gases, and water per defined schedule.
  • Assists in investigations regarding out of specifications (OOS) results. Addresses deviations related to Micro procedures.
  • Prepares media or reagents as needed.
  • Performs and/or reviews media/reagents quality control checks.
  • Microbiological culture maintenance.
  • Coordinates testing and sample submission to contract laboratories as needed.
  • Orders laboratory supplies and media.
  • Performs maintenance of lab equipment as assigned.
  • Follows all approved procedures and tests.
  • Records test results in laboratory notebooks and in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
  • Complies with company safety and regulatory policies including GLPs (Good Laboratory Practices) and GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements: 

  • 0-2 years of experience in a laboratory setting preferred.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) type environment preferred.
  • Experience with Microbiological instruments.
  • Independence and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential business information.
  • Exceptional time management and multi-tasking skills.
  • Team leadership skills and team player.    
  • Adheres to company values of Integrity, Innovation, Accuracy, Teamwork and Stewardship. 
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Ability to report to work responsive, free from sedatives, and in a non-sedative state.  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Education and Experience: 

  • B.S. in Microbiology or related field.
  • Experience with classical microbiological techniques: colony isolation, plating (spread/pour), serial dilutions, and aseptic technique.
  • 0-2 years of experience in a GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) or GLP related field such as Biotech, Pharma, or Medical Devices preferred.

Working Conditions: 

Position requires qualified individuals to see, hear and speak (verbally and audibly). Required to ascend and descend stairs; sit, stand, lift, bend, stoop, crawl and kneel. The employee must also use hands to finger, handle or feel. Occasionally reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing are required. 

May be asked to drive or travel by car, air, or other transportation for business purposes.  

May be required to lift and carry 20 pounds. 

Must be able to function effectively with noise in a lab environment. Natural and regular stressors occur on the job.
