Job Title: Medical Billing and Collection Specialist

Schedule: 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday

Location: St. Petersburg, Florida

We are dedicated to providing high-quality medical services to our patients and are currently seeking a skilled Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment and contribute to the efficient operation of our medical billing department.

Position Overview:
As a Medical Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for accurately and efficiently processing medical claims and invoices, ensuring timely reimbursement from insurance companies and patients. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical billing procedures, coding systems, and insurance regulations. This is a critical role that requires attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and verify patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Process and submit medical claims to insurance companies electronically or via paper submission.
  • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, resolving any issues or discrepancies as needed.
  • Review explanation of benefits (EOB) statements and reconcile payments received with billed amounts.
  • Investigate and appeal claim denials or underpayments as necessary.
  • Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers to resolve billing inquiries and disputes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date billing records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Assist with coding and data entry tasks as needed to support billing operations.
  • Stay informed about changes in healthcare billing regulations and coding guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certification in medical billing and coding preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Medical Billing Specialist or similar role in a healthcare setting.
  • Thorough understanding of medical billing procedures, coding systems (ICD-10, CPT), and insurance regulations (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance).
  • Proficiency in medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality standards.
