Works-in-Progress Associates (WPA) is seeking an experienced Inspector to join our team This position is in-person, Monday-Friday, working on Priority Facility Improvements on the Goodman Firehouse and Broad & Allen Firehouse in the City of Rochester, NY.

Provide construction inspection services for the following projects:

Goodman Firehouse Priority Facility Improvements, 740 North Goodman Street, Rochester, NY 14609

The scope of the work consists of a 675-SF single-story building addition as well as interior and exterior priority improvements and alterations to the existing 6,638 SF +/- single-story, masonry bearing wall and steel framed roof fire station with a structural reinforced concrete slab supported by grade beams and deep piles. The building was originally constructed in 1960 and is constructed on a former stone quarry site. The project renovations consist of two apparatus bays, office, lounge and kitchen space, as well as storage, bathroom, locker areas, fitness room and decontamination room for a single fire company: Engine 9. The project is located on a 1.96 +/- acre parcel of land and includes various site improvements, including pavement, earthwork, landscaping and utilities.

The scope of the work consists of interior and exterior priority improvements and alterations to the existing 14,911 SF +/- single-story, masonry bearing wall and steel framed roof fire station. There is a partial basement under the western portion of the building which contains building mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment. The building was originally constructed in 1955. The project renovations consist of five apparatus bays, office, lounge and kitchen space, as well as storage, bunk room and bathroom areas for two fire companies. The building also houses space for Battalion Chief Quarters. The building is historically significant and is eligible for listing as a historic building with the NYS Office of Historic Preservation. The project is located on a 0.65-acre parcel of land and includes minor site improvements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in engineering/architecture and/or construction related field from an accredited college or university is preferred.
  • 4 years of full-time experience as a technical specialist in construction and design related field; 2 years must have been involved in managing all phases of construction
  • OSHA 30 certification is required
  • A driver's license valid in New York State.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with all applicable software packages including but not limited to MS Windows; MS Office (including Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be willing to undergo a background check, in accordance with local law/regulations

Company DescriptionWPA is a woman-owned Owner's Representative firm and we manage construction projects for mostly nonprofits including schools, hospitals, libraries, etc. in the New York City area. We have been in business for over 30 years and have completed well over 400 projects. We currently have somewhere between 40-50 employees.

Because we are a woman-owned firm we are on contracts with larger Construction Management firms such as LiRo, Hill International, Jacobs, Tectonic, Gilbane, etc. and we help them to meet their WBE goals. We provide Project Managers, Inspectors, Estimators, Office Engineers and so on.
