A manufacturing engineer at Boston BoatWorks is often among the foremost experts on the yacht production lines they support. They will work closely with our manufacturing team to ensure that our yachts are built to the high finish grade for which the company is known. While this is not a design role, there are countless opportunities to collaborate with yacht designers and other industry experts while providing essential feedback from experience gained by working closely with the manufacturing team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process Coordination - facilitate process coordination including collaborating with department leaders and fellow engineers to define, develop, and implement processes, document new and existing processes, and guide the implementation of templates, patterns, and fixtures to improve efficiency and consistency of production.
  • Drawing Coordination – work in 3d models and drafting the shop drawings for product fabrication and assembly.
  • Production Support - supports production by working with department leaders to evaluate and resolve production issues, supports troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • Materials Documentation – document materials to help develop “Bills of Materials” and maintain the documents with Change Management documentation.
  • Quality Management – partner with department leaders and quality assurance (QA) personnel to develop quality standards, checklists and tracking methods.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering discipline.
  • Practical knowledge of manufacturing tools and processes.
  • Proficient in various CAD programs, EXCEL, Word, and Outlook.
  • Proven record of strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision and balance multiple tasks.

Preference Given to Applicants with the following qualifications:

  • Experience with boats and/or boatbuilding.
  • Experience Solid Edge, Rhinoceros or similar 3d design software.
  • Knowledge of composites and lamination processes.
  • Knowledge of marine systems and components

Physical Demands/Conditions:

  • Onsite work in Boston
  • General office environment - use of office equipment such as computers, tablets and telephones and the ability to prepare written materials.
  • Manufacturing environment - periodic exposure to load noises, dust, harsh smells, exposure to indoor/outdoor environment with varying levels of cold, heat, humidity, and precipitation. Work may be performed around electrically and mechanically energized equipment, and working in elevated places such as on lifts, ladders, catwalks and staging inside and outside of the building.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) due to occupational risks of exposure to non-toxic and toxic chemicals used in construction of boats.

Supervisory Scope: None

Compensation: Annual Salary between $70,000 and $100,000 commensurate with experience. Senior Manufacturing Engineer position available for qualified candidates.
