The SPCA of Polk County is the oldest nonprofit no kill animal welfare organization in Polk County, having served the community for over 45 years, through pet adoptions, rehabilitation, transport, community programs and more recently a low cost spay, neuter and wellness clinic. With a facility over 10,000 sq. ft. located in Livingston, TX and caring for 150+ dogs and cats at any time.

JOB DESCRIPTION
A veterinary technician is an important part to the success of our society by providing the highest level of service and care to all animals, leveraging developed skills to improve daily operations through client engagements, verbally, telephonically and electronically. With attention to detail and strong organizational and communicative skills, a veterinary technician would assist Veterinarians with surgical and wellness services, including but not limited to careful and calm handling of all animals, following proper fear-free restrain measures, sedation, blood draws, skin scrapes, diagnostic testing, prepping and maintaining equipment, maintaining animal records with accurate information, manage and maintain the work environment to ensure presentation and hygiene is of the highest standard.
HOURS & RATE
- 18-25 per week (Part Time)
- Friday & Saturday
- $15.00 - $19.50 per hour
DUTIES
- Assist Veterinarians to ensure the highest level of care
- Educate clients on animal welfare
- Preparation, sedation and monitoring of patients under anesthesia
- Vaccinating, microchipping and other general wellness services
- Record keeping and logging services, care plans etc.
- General hygiene care standards, including disinfection of all areas to meet required standards
- Admission and discharge of patients
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Must be able to follow Standard Operating Procedures and promote the organizations mission
- Excellent communications skills and an ability to multitask
- 1+ year experience as a Veterinary Technician (Required)
- Attention to detail and excellent record keeping skills
- Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment.
- Knowledge of basic animal behavior and proper methods of animal restraint.
- Good computer skills and a knowledge of medical software
- Able to understand and carry out oral and written directions.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work is performed in an animal shelter. Potential for exposure to high noise levels, zoonotic diseases, animal waste, hazardous chemicals, sharp objects and potential hostile persons or dangerous animals.
- Ability to lift and carry objects and animals of moderate weight
- Ability to lift, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, push and other potentially strenuous activities
