Patient Care Transport Specialist Role:

Responds to non-emergency requests and transports patients to and from doctors’ appointments, medical facilities and other destinations. We are looking for a hard working, dedicated driver to successfully transport patients while providing a high level of service. The driver must have excellent communication skills.

The successful candidate will work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required and adapt quickly to the constant changing environment of the medical transport business.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:

  • Operate and drive a wheelchair ramp van. This is a specially equipped minivan that has a side entry door for patients that are able to walk or use a walker and a rear ramp for wheeling in wheelchair patients into the van.
  • Operating vehicle in a safe manner to include parking the vehicle and pulling into/out of temporary loading/unloading areas
  • Assisting clients in getting onto the vehicle and safely inside of their respective destination
  • Drive clients to their destinations on time
  • Thorough knowledge of San Francisco, Peninsula, and Bay Area and other areas including major traffic patterns.
  • Communication with dispatch on a regular, consistent basis. It is the responsibility of the driver to let dispatch know when they are picking up/dropping off the patients via the cell phone app.
  • Neatly and accurately document pertinent patient information on all required forms/documents. Turns in appropriate documents prior to leaving duty.
  • Maintain and replenish vehicle, equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and courteous appearance, professional and ethical behavior while working cooperatively with patients, other health care professionals, co-workers and the public.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy workplace in accordance with OSHA standards, company policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Regular attendance consistent with scheduled hours which may include overtime.
  • Adhering to company policies and standard operating procedures

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current State Driver’s License and Satisfactory Driving Record
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to read and interpret all required documents and write required reports and correspondence
  • Knowledge of company’s products and services
  • Other qualifications specific to local operation and/or contract requirements
  • No moving violations or "at fault" accidents within the past 3 years
  • Ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and criminal background investigation
  • Show up to work in a timely manner
  • Know how to keep a level head in a busy environment
  • Must be passionate about helping people
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish Preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.

While performing the duties of this position, Driver is regularly required to bending/stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting at established weight requirements, etc. (satisfactorily meet company physical assessments/tests). Some patients have a wheelchair ramp at their home, but lifting patients in their wheelchairs may be necessary.

Must be able to work a 40 to 50-hour work week and must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays. Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time. Must have ability to see well enough to read handwritten and typewritten material.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND OTHER WORK AIDS:

Must be able to drive and operate wheelchair accessible vans. Operate wheelchair ramp, securely strap wheelchairs for safe transportation, and operate oxygen tanks for patients requiring oxygen. Must be able to use telephone systems, and other cell phone mapping tools.
