The Applications Chemist
- Crop Care will be responsible for designing and executing internal laboratory and external collaborative research projects to generate data substantiating product performance claims for formulants and adjuvants. Another aspect of this role is the effective provision of technical support (advice, recommendations, and presentations) to customers.
Key Duties:
The Applications Scientist will design and construct laboratory tasks, execute experiments, record observations, issue reports, and support the development of new performance claims according to agreed priorities. They will develop reports, presentations, and manuscripts for publication; delivering these as agreed and assuring data quality.
Laboratory Activities (@75%)
* Design and execute laboratory projects according to assigned priorities including the application of appropriate measurements using relevant analytical techniques with minimal supervision.
* Deliver projects against agreed milestones, and issue reports on time with minimal editing and revision required.
* Identify new projects for applications and data packages to support the sale of differentiated products.
* Support peers and associates in the delivery of shared project objectives through cooperative training and hands
-on assistance where needed.
* Develop new products through application of standard research principles and provide ideas for new applications of existing products with support of accurate and reliable data.
Marketing and Sales Technical Support (@25%)
* Support interaction with customers through technical support, sample recommendations, technology presentations, and the delivery of agree Customer Work Requests (CWR).
* Generate high quality data for promotional literature (symposia, trade shows, journal articles, etc); reviewing results with marketing to ensure clarity and appropriate impact.
* Troubleshoot problems customers report when using products and recommend materials and methods to improve performance.
* Provide appropriate updates to teammates, global peers, and other internal collaborators through audience
-specific communication.
Experience required:
* Product formulation and evaluation experience (ideally 5+ years) across a range of types including solutions, suspensions, and solid powder/granules is preferred.
* "Lead from the bench" focus with demonstrated skills in relevant analytical techniques with the ability to train others in the science behind formulation design.
* Clear understanding of the science behind the formation of stable and effective emulsions and dispersions along with the role of inert ingredients in product performance.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating initiative and ownership, capable of independent work but keen to work as part of a global team.
* Good communication skills are essential (written and verbal) since participating in technical discussions with highly skilled customers and peers (internally and externally) is required.
* Physically capable of standing to work at the laboratory bench for up to 7 hours a day with willingness to travel as required.
Education / specialized training required:
* Graduate degree (MS or PhD preferred) in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field
* 3+ years of relevant laboratory experience
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
