Position Summary
The Dermatology Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting the Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners in all aspects of patient care. The Medical Assistant ensures that patients receive the highest level of care, and that the medical provider they are assisting is informed and prepared before, during, and after a patient’s visit.
Essential Responsibilities
- Escort patients to and from the exam room, preparing the patient for their examination.
- Enter complete medical histories along with patients’ current medications into the chart.
- Assist the Physician/Provider in the room by scribing the notes in the patient’s medical record.
- Assist with setting up Mohs surgery, biopsies, excisions, suture removals, and cosmetic procedures.
- Prepare and collect path/lab specimens, notify patients of results, and schedule follow-up appointments.
- Daily cleaning and organizing exam rooms, along with stocking the rooms.
- Laboratory maintenance that includes cleaning and autoclaving instruments.
- Going over medications and post-procedure protocols with patients.
- Obtain medication prior authorizations.
- Patient check in/out.
- Transcribe in EMA.
- Assist in answering phones and scheduling appointments.
- Assist in scheduling referrals.
- Assist in obtaining authorizations for procedures.
- Other duties assigned by management.
