Bookkeeper

Job Description

Principal Function:  

The Bookkeeper is responsible to the Senior Pastor for maintaining the Church’s financial records and preparing periodic financial reports. 

Responsibilities:    

1. Post receipts and disbursements of all accounts in QuickBooks. 

2. Prepare bank reconciliation statements monthly.

3. Make monthly, quarterly, and annual government reports. 

4. When approved, Check and total all invoices; inform responsible persons of their budget expenditures as requested.  

5. Prepare and issue checks following church policy.  

6. Check and compute weekly timecards of hourly paid workers and issue weekly checks. Issue checks to salaried workers semi-monthly.  

7. Maintain and keep up-to-date Church employee personnel files.

8. Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.  

Required Skills/Abilities

1.     Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

2.     Excellent interpersonal skills with congregation members, leadership, employees, volunteers, and the community.

3.     Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

4.     Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

5.     Willing to submit to a background check.

6.     Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and related software.

Education and Experience

1.     A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field or equivalent is preferred.

2.     Three years of experience in a related field.

Physical Requirements

1.     Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

2.     Prolonged periods of interacting with others.

3.     Prolonged periods of attending meetings and working with others.
