We are looking to hire skilled Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor to work at a well-established food processing plant near Chicago's southside. (Maintenance Supervisors will be required to have their own basic hand tools & toolbox)

MUST haves for this position: Food production industry experience.

Starting Salary: $56K to $65K

Shift: 1st shift (5:00am to 2:30pm) Ability/willingness to work weekends/late if necessary.

Responsibilities - 8 Mechanics will report to this person. Must be willing to be a working supervisor (expected to work alongside those being supervised) 

With moderate supervision provide maintenance support to ensure the safe and effective operation of equipment and team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • A working supervisor must have knowledge and ability to perform necessary troubleshooting & repairs to plant & house equipment if necessary.
  • Knowledge of electrical, basic hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, refrigeration & welding is preferred.
  • Schedules repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment to ensure continuous production operations.
  • Reviews job orders to determine work priorities.
  • Plans, develops, and implements new methods and procedures designed to improve operations, minimize operating costs, and effect greater utilization of labor and materials.
  • Overall accountability for equipment reliability to ensure production and other operating requirements are met and meet quality standards.
  • Educates, develops, and motivates the maintenance work force to achieve required production, safety, and quality goals while improving technical and teamwork skills.
  • Monitor & maintain plant Utilities, low pressure steam boilers, wastewater, fire suppression & refrigeration system.
  • Manages the facility's repair request & preventative maintenance programs using CMMS system Mpulse.
  • Works with the Engineering, Maintenance Manager and production departments to ensure that daily requirements, PM schedules and goals are established and met on both 1st & 2nd shift.
  • Ability to supervise weekend maintenance activities as needed.
  • Complete annual performance evaluations for team members.
  • Supports and maintains compliance with all Food Safety & Security policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by Engineering and Maintenance Manager.

Job Requirements

  • Technical degree in the Maintenance field preferred. Will consider minimum 8 years' experience in lieu of degree.
  • At least 3 years of maintenance supervisory or similar background.
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems, Mpulse is a plus and strong mechanical/ electrical experience with packaging & production equipment. Must be familiar with welding. Must understand the safe and proper usage of shop equipment.
  • Should have knowledge and experience of PM program development and implementation.
  • Walking, some sitting, climbing, lifting for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
  • Both strong verbal and written communication skills are a must with the ability to comprehend both types of communication. Bilingual is a plus (Spanish/English).
  • Strong trouble shooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with refrigeration and HVAC systems is a plus.
  • Possesses operator 1 & 2 for ammonia refrigeration (or is willing to take a 3day certification course)
