Job Summary
Mechanics are trained to provide superior maintenance on both diesel equipment and our growing fleet of trucks. As a Diesel Mechanic, you'll perform preventive maintenance inspection (PMI), troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild major components on vehicles and equipment. Youll work independently on equipment that requires a high level of skill with hydraulics, electrical, and diagnostics

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
To be successful as a Mechanic, you'll be expected to:

  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA Standards, and performs all work by established safety procedures.
  • Oversees mechanics - supervises and mentors a team of mechanics, assigning tasks and providing guidance
  • Trains new employees and provides ongoing professional development for team members
  • Develops and implements preventative maintenance schedules to minimize downtime
  • Conducts regular inspections of equipment to ensure they are functioning properly and to identify potential issues
  • Performs high level repairs and maintenance on machinery, vehicles, or equipment
  • Diagnose complex mechanical issues and develops effective repaid strategies
  • Test equipment and machinery after repairs to confirm that they are operating correctly.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts used and time spent.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, including estimating costs and controlling expenses related to repairs and parts
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and effectively repair any problems identified during an inspection.
  • Perform proficient inspection, diagnosis, and moderately complex repair of assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Provide assistance, guidance, and direction to other maintenance personnel.
  • Use vehicle computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs.
  • Estimate time and material costs on repairs and requisitions of new parts.
  • Advise supervisor immediately if additional work is needed or if repairs cannot be completed within the Standard Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Inspect the quality of outside/supplier repairs and or rebuilds. Assesses structural damage and assigns needed repairs utilizing the most appropriate method(s).
  • Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns.
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles. Performs maintenance-related work as required.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle electrical systems
  • Experience in vehicle Hydraulic systems
  • Able to work with minimal supervision at times
  • Strong diagnostic knowledge of diesel emissions systems to include both PDF and SCR technologies
  • Welding ability a strong plus
  • Familiar with all aspects of vehicle braking systems including Air systems and foundation components of both Air-Drum and air disc brakes
  • Familiar with all aspects of vehicle Steering components and systems
  • Familiar with all aspects of vehicle HVAC systems
  • Familiar with all aspects of truck suspension systems
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.

Qualifications:
Below are the minimum qualifications to be a fit as a mechanic at MSW:

  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience (additional experience preferred)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Valid drivers license and must have a clean driving record.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
