Mechanical Manager

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Conduct job briefings, end of shift briefings, safety meetings and activities, ensuring that safety rules, procedures and policies are adhered to through efficiency testing and safety tracking document.
  • Correct and document safety incidents, safety hazards/concerns, investigates for corrective actions to the various departments.
  • Support, communicate and deliver to key performance indicators. Leads to ensure all direct reports have an understanding of the business objectives, as well as the role they are all accountable for
  • Communicate and interact regularly with management within transportation to ensure Freight Car repair and Locomotive servicing is meeting the expectations of internal and external customers.
  • Ensure that there is the appropriate level of stock/material and is responsible for ordering within prescribed limits. Supports all expenditure reduction initiatives.
  • Maintain communication and foster positive working relationships with employees.
  • Support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and effectiveness of the operation.
  • Ensure Freight Car and Locomotive bad order repair, cycle time, dwell time, productivity and key metrics are met. Coordinate with Transportation to ensure over the road setoffs of bad order Freight Cars are repaired in a timely manner.
  • Ensure repairs and train servicing are in compliance with AAR, and GLC Standards.
  • Support mechanical forces at train incidents within their jurisdiction adhering to the guidelines of the Emergency Response Plan
  • Communicate and interact regularly with counterparts.
  • Work directly with employees in the shop & yard environments to establish self-managed work teams and provides guidance and support to employees to bring about the vision of an empowered and engaged workforce.
  • The person in this position assists with managing employees in the maintenance of the locomotive or railcar fleet.
  • He or she ensures that all GLC safety rules and practices for Mechanical Department employees are followed explicitly.
  • This person manages the maintenance and repair of locomotives and railcars so that they meet FRA standards, while reducing life-cycle costs and increasing reliability and availability
  • Ensure and audit compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety and operations, per AAR and FRA regulations.
  • Maintain employee safety records regarding scheduled safety-rule presentations, job briefings, and safety films; prepare schedules for these events.
  • Assist in the work process to maintain locomotive periodic-maintenance schedules and advise Transportation when locomotives must be directed to the shop.
  • Certify locomotive maintenance files to comply with FRA regulations and GLC rules for record retention.
  • Coordinate and schedule activities related to car and/or locomotive repair to ensure there is available manpower, shop space, and material to complete the task.
  • Assist in preparing budget and working within budgetary restraints.
  • Assist in developing capital spending plan.
  • Maintain optimum inventory level to support repair activities.
  • Coordinate employee safety and technical and environmental training.
  • Provide technical expertise as necessary in support of mechanical operations.
  • Assist with other projects and perform other duties as assigned.
